Suburban Rear Floor Options
So what are the Suburban Rear Floor Options ...
Is Marine ply wood the only thing everyone has been using? Anyone use steel bed sections? I am raising my floor but was wondering if others have had to replace the rear wood.

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
I seem to remember a build thread were someone was using a late model frame/drivetrain and integrated the metal floor into the early Suburban.
It's all I got

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
When I replaced mine I used a product called Gatorboard. It was slightly cheaper than marine plywood, but it may have been a one time local deal.
Here is a link to my repair thread. The floor replacement starts about mid page and goes on for several pages. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...698377&page=20

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
jeeze thats a lot of work for a floor lol..came out nice though. i plan on just welding a simple square tubing frame, then bolting some 1x4 or 1x6 long ways. nothing crazy, id like to have it easily removeable to access my air suspension in case anything comes up.

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
That's what I was looking at too, and also was wondering if anyone had used C10 bed panels

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
Polishspy - I know the plastic board is basically impervious to rot, etc... and is a good platform to walk across, but how well do you think that plastic will hold up to the seatbelt mounts and more importantly the floor mounts??

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
I think it will hold up just as well as the plywood, Its tough stuff and things are mounted to it on boats in several applications.

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
It does resonate as you would expect, but either way it will be covered by Lizard Skin this time

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
2nd row seat will be all I was installing anyway. And I have seen some nice "boat decks" on trucks but it looks too outdoorsy for the back of a Burb my opinion of course

To get the maximum resistance to resonance using a product like MDF would be best. MDF is used in speaker enclosures for just that reason.

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
Sorry but ... Is it one piece, what is the thickness and density, how easy is it to work with, custom cut or can you DIY cut?
I am planning on raising and mini tubbing the rear section from the 2nd row seats back.

Re: Suburban Rear Floor Options
The starboard comes in various sizes, but normally standard 4x8' sheet and 3/4" thick.
I did the job with normal wood working tools with no issues. |

Has anyone used aluminum honeycomb? Its what Countertopps guys are using to it as sub-straight to go on top of the cabinets. Seams like it would be strong enough 3/4 think.

I have concerns about how corrosion resistant the center honeycomb is. It will be exposed to the outside weather. I dont expect that it is going to hold up to hauling things like engine blocks around, but not everyone does that. And you would have to come up with a plan to deal with not being able to make the tongue and groove joint for the small piece on the front passenger side. Just some concerns to consider before going forward.

The AD Suburban's were built around the wood floors so you can't go with one piece floors. I know its not the same body style but it might provide some ideas. Thanks Marc
