Buddy Bucket foam differences- Need Advice
From what I can tell, there are basically 2 types of seat foam you can get for these seats- the "squishy" kind like PUI sells (which is like the original foam) or the high density version like American Cushion Foam has. From my understanding, this is more like what modern vehicles use. Am I correct so far? If so, which is more comfortable? I have heard folks say the high density foam is so firm that they don't "sink down" any and as a result, are looking through the tinted area at the top edge of the windshield instead of the middle area of the windshield.
I guess for long trips, the high density ones would be better but I don't plan on taking any long trips on this truck. Tell me what you have and how you like it. Pros and cons of either? Also, what is this seat on the right? Is this a regular bucket seat and not a buddy seat? It folds forward and has stops in the back to control how much recline you have. Do they both use the same frame? Sorry for all the questions but I gotta know before I order foams and covers. Thanks, Last edited by Steve Cole; 03-09-2021 at 01:56 PM. Reason: added more. |

I installed American Cushion Industries foam on my bench seat. It is quite soft and cushy. I find it to be very comfortable. From what I have read, the PUI foam is much more firm. I have no firsthand experience with it though.

That's funny, I have been hearing that the PUI foam was cushy and the American Cushion foam was firm. Hmm. I wish I could do a side by side comparison.

Re: Buddy Bucket foam differences- Need Advice
It is entirely possible that both companies have switched suppliers over the years, maybe more than once.
I recommend buying one of each and returning the one you don't like. Then order the second one to match the keeper. You may be out some shipping, but to me it would be worth it.

Re: Buddy Bucket foam differences- Need Advice
I am also looking to find info on the differences before I order a set of foams. So far I've heard of three suppliers: OER, American Cushion Industries, and PUI. My local distributors in SoCal sell the OER. Im wondering if these might be the same as one of the others...

Re: Buddy Bucket foam differences- Need Advice
I did a bunch of searching on other car forums about the foam options and it sounds like most people who have tried multiple foam vendors seem to prefer the American Cushion. So I think that is the direction I'm going to go. Sure I could save $200 with the other stuff, but this truck is for me, not a build for others, so I figure its worth the splurge.
We are planning to make some covers ourselves at home on my mothers industrial machine. We had good luck with this route last time on the suburban and it'll help cut down on total cost. Sailrite has a lot of good cloth options if you aren't needing to duplicate the original materials and patterns. In fact modern materials are a heck of a lot better looking, feeling and more comfortable than 1970s vinyl and cloth...in my option

Re: Buddy Bucket foam differences- Need Advice
Yes, the American Cushion is definitely the best but it’s pricey. The cheapest I have found is $275 per seat plus shipping. Let us know if you find it any cheaper.
