LS swap issue with MAF sensor
I finally went over to the “dark side” and have (finally) started my first LS swap. It is a 1998 Trans Am LS1 and 4l60e. I inherited the engine when my brother passed away. I sent the ecu off and had the vats and a few other unnecessary items deleted. He had purchased a wiring harness somewhere, but had never installed it. I started laying everything out, and all went well until I went to plug the MAF sensor in. The connector is different in the harness than what the original MAF sensor uses. There was another MAF sensor and it has the same connector. I also went to a parts store and looked at a MAF sensor and it is also the same. Since i have no idea where the harness came from, I can’t contact them. I have sourced a correct corresponding connector and pins. I already have the crimp tool if needed. There are the same amount of wires on the old and new connector. Had anyone run into this before? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum.

Re: LS swap issue with MAF sensor
That MAF in the pic isn't from an F body LS1, since they have a 3 wire plug. It looks like an all plastic one from a van. The plug in the harness could be for a truck MAF which is aluminum and plastic. What did the other one look like? What application did you look up one for at the parts store?

Re: LS swap issue with MAF sensor
I got all my junk mixed up. With help from LSNova71, i figured out the following:
The MAF sensor in the photo was from a 1996-2000 L31 Vortec. I dug out the f body maf an intake assembly. It is yet another connector. I did some google image searching and it seems that the swap harness I have uses a truck maf for some reason. I bought a maf sensor for a 99-07 Silverado, and it plugs in. |

Re: LS swap issue with MAF sensor
On to the next mystery. I believe the other sensor near the maf sensor is an IAT sensor (?) wrong connector in it as well.

Re: LS swap issue with MAF sensor
That first pic is too big to tell what it is, but doesn't look like an IAT to me, they're generally 2 wire, not 3. Looks like the throttle position sensor, but way too close of a pic to be sure. An LS1 harness would have a separate IAT plug like that in the 2nd pic, but if the harness you have has a plug for a truck MAF, then the IAT is built into it so it wouldn't need a separate plug for it. The coolant temp sensor wires are yellow and black though, maybe it's that?

Re: LS swap issue with MAF sensor
I agree that 2 pin in the last pic, is likely the engine coolant temp. should be a sensor in the front driver side cylinder head, by the spark plug. that connector should plug into it.
