Which shims to use

I am changing the front suspension on my 66 truck. I am using a donor 1979 control arms , springs and everything except the crossmember. Using original 66 crossmember. Should I use the shims and spacers from the 79 or the 66?
There is a difference in the number of spacers and the control arm shafts and spacers. Thanks for any replies.

Re: Which shims to use

It won't matter, as it will be shimmed to whatever it needs to get the proper alignment.

Re: Which shims to use

I would try both just for the heck of it. Alignment shops don't like having no shims installed when you bring it in.

Re: Which shims to use

I tried both sets and ended up reusing the 66 version. Reason being was the spacers were concave or convex ( can't remember which is which, lol). The shims and spacers for the 79 didn't leave much thread for the nut. Thanks for the replies. Did get the new bushings installed and everything is painted. Now it is time to start on the lower control arm.

Re: Which shims to use

Yeah been trying to decide on this today ,noticed originals were concave/convex Did this work out allright for you ? the new (85) crosshaft has the thick spacer on the outside that is convex/concave did you use it allso. After re-reading this it looks like you used only the old version

Re: Which shims to use

Yes I did use the old version of shims. I guess the bolts on the newer crossmember may be longer. Didn't have much room left for the nut to go on. I will let the front end alignment guys figure it out. LOL!!!
