Why move the tank? These trucks aren't really 'that safe' regardless of where the tank is. Drive em with extreme care. JMO.

Congrats again!
Thanks! I am enjoying it very much so far.

Moving the tank is more for the extra seat room, not hearing the sloshing around, and the smell than safety for me... and I do drive this way more cautious than my daily.

Replaced heater control valve and reconnected bypassed heater hoses.

Replaced the driver's side kick panel vent door. Old one was shot and letting leaves and water into the cab.

New wiper blades.

Replaced the backup light lenses and gaskets; one side was cracked and both gaskets were shot. Looks a lot better now.

Replaced fuel and air filters, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser...

Must have got a plug wire crossed because she's running poorly. Have to go back through and get it right.

New door seals. Got the Precision ones from GMC Pauls, but the door needs to be slammed now. Might need to adjust the door striker.

Trying to decide if I want to tackle the QuadraJet rebuild.

Precision door seals are nice, I have a new pair in the parts drawer, replaced with used 2006-2009 Honda civic 2 dr. no more slamming doors.......spent many hrs adjusting door hinges, and striker, never closed right....search OMG Honda door seals, I'm not the only one who had this problem.

Replacing precision with honda this Sunday. Literally closes like a brand new truck.

Yes, I'd seen that thread... Might should have listened... GMCPaul's wrote back and said you're supposed to cut a v-shape in the bulbous part where it meets under the sill, so the air can escape. I'll try that first. Hate to just toss $50 in a drawer but I don't want to have to slam the door so...

Hope that solves your problem, different trucks, some doors fit better etc....No disrespect to GMC Pauls, I punched 4 holes in the door gaskets and results were no better on mine.

Re: Finally got my dream truck... 72 Cheyenne Super

No pics but just some updates...

New Magnaflow mufflers to replace the rotted and rattling ones that she came with. Love the sound now.

Choke was not opening, fixed that.

The A/C vacuum line from canister to dash was totally rotted at the canister. Replaced and fixed that.

Set timing, dwell, and idle (without the solenoid)

Now she runs like a scalded cat and sounds great!

Ordered a heater core, A/C Selctor Box and glove box liner from LMC. That should take care of the 'operational' items...

Great looking truck! I like that you are keeping it mostly original but seasoning it to taste, and making small improvements.

On your worn wood door panels, you might want to see if someone in your area does wood grain touch up. In my line of work, sometimes we need to renew doors or fix chips on wood paneling. There is a specialist group that sends somebody out and they fix chips and disappear holes with paints and sealant, etc. Might cost a couple hundred dollars, but they would then match. The guys we use are charged out by the hour. You could have him fix something in your house as a trial run and to make your wife happy, and then bring him out to the truck.

Thanks!

Funny you should mention a wood grain touch up guy... My best friend Michael is down from Charlotte visiting. He's a custom cabinet maker, and when he saw the door panels, he said 'I can fix those!' So with luck next time they visit in a few weeks, he can get them done.

Re: Finally got my dream truck... 72 Cheyenne Super

Put the AC ducting back together, with new blend door/selector, now the air flows where it should... still need to pull it all back out and do the heater core at some point, and maybe cap off one end of the center vent.

Need to come up with a nickname... Any ideas? One that comes to mind is Olive, but would love to hear other ideas.
