what would you choose?
what would you guys perfer if you had a choice but could only have one, i 71-72 k5 blazer or a 68 shortbox fleetside gmc 4x4? ive got an eye on both right now, i know forsure the 68 could be mine and when i get the money for it,the owner said he would hang onto it, and isnt adverstising or anything, the k5 is out in a guys back yard, been there for as long as i can remember but i havent enquired about it yet, so who knows if i could even get it but just say i could, im not sure what would be a better 4x4, if i got the gmc id swap the front clip with a 67-68 chevy clip..its a hard choice, that blazer would rock in the summer though with the removable top! help me decide guys
thanks, Derek

Derek: I would go for the 68 sb Fleetside .
I think 406_SBC told everyone to tell you to get the Blazer so he could get the pickup .

A 68 GMC 4x4 SWB has got to be a low production item and in and of itself somewhat of a rarity. Unless it's completely thrashed, changing it's identity to a Chevy would be unfortunate. For that reason alone, get the Blazer.

Get the Blazer. If you are into the pick-up look, get a half-top. You'd still have the versitility of convertible.

Choices...
I'd say find out what you really have for choices, is the blazer really for sale?
Also, if it's been out sitting in the field, what condition might it be in? I know none of this is what your post asked but just some thoughts. If you buy the blazer, it has a bit shorter wheel base if your going to wheel it. And you can take the top off...a very cool way to ride! If you buy the GMC...CPNE makes a good point, it's a nice truck. Maybe you could get it for a good price and sell it to somebody that's been searching for a nice old stock GMC shorty step Take the profits and build your blazer! |

yeah, i agree that those gmc's are rare, i think andy told me the production number a while back, it was something like 1550 made that year, ill go bug the blazer owner this weekend and see if its forsale, but if i did end up with that gmc it would be hard not to swap for the chevy front end, they are so damn nice!
thanks diane, yes i did tie one on, or who knows how many, it was an awesome weekend, wakefest was in town, its the pro wake board tour, the best part of the weekend was the reef bikini contest, my buddy got some good pics but his comp is haggard and he cant get them to upload of his camera so ill have to wait for those, i cant wait to post them when i can though, overall it was a good bday but me and 3 buddies did get fined for drinking in public...we were at wakefest and the beers were 5 bucks a shot so we got our own and drank in the parking lot, the damn cops snuck up on bikes and busted us! lol oh well it wasnt a big deal Derek

I personally would be very torn as to what to get...a 68 GMC shortbox 4x4 is a rare thing (especially if it's Canadian too i.e. Think Gee Emm's Jimmy 1 of 112!). A Blazer is definitely a cool find too...I can only think of how cool it is to drive one with the top off...I would prolly find some way to get both...if it's in the $$$ tho...
