I would run the 307 until it wouldn't go anymore and then buy a 350, no need to waste money on a 307.
I just found out that's in my truck. It runs like a champ now, so not touching it.

As I said the 307 is a good motor, just not worth putting money into when you can get better performance out of a 350 for less money. As the old saying goes there is no replacement for displacement.

Re: 307 torque build

Thank you for all the info, i wasnt expecting this many answers! Maybe I will just keep it at stock specs and keep it running. I have a feeling the rings may be going bad as well so i may have to tale care of that but even with a cgeap rebuild kit i wont have much into it at all.

If you can do the labor yourself the right rebuild kit of chosen gaskets, valve seals, bearings, and cast iron rings along with attention to detail should do the trick inexpensively for many miles or engine hours on a chore truck. Check the cam for excessive wear as the early ones went flat on their own under normal use due to metallurgy. Good luck. We are cheering you on and please report back.

Re: 307 torque build

Over the last few weeks I upgraded to a GM HEI, boy what a big difference in power. Also had the original two barrel carb rebuilt. New plugs, wires and the little 307 runs like new. ...
