"SBS Formula" Series 62 Wheels don't fit my 2wd blazer?

Not sure if anyone can help. I followed the SBS Formula page here (http://squarebodysyndicate.com/sbs-formula.html) and ordered my Series 62 Wheels in 15x8 with 4" back space front and 3.5"BS rear. Neither fit. Both of them hit the rotor/brake drum. Just not sure what went wrong. Looks like to me the C/10 and the Blazer have the exact same rotor/drum combination. Thanks for any insight..

Yes sir. Had stock 15" rally's on there as well as I've had a set of 15" old school enkie's on there. This is too weird.

According to Wheel Vintiques they cannot build a 15x8 with less than 4.25" of back space without reversing the hoop. Also, you cannot fit a factory disc brake caliper inside a reversed hoop. So, either WV is wrong and they can build it standard, or the SBS site is not correct or is lacking information. I'm not really blaming anyone but I'm now a lot smarter about 15" wheels. Just wish I didn't have to waste about $400 to figure it out. That is for the fronts. The rears are hitting on the rear face of where the wheel center is stamped out. I think I can put them in the mill and just remove some of the excess material there. Fingers crossed or I'm out another $400.

Yes. Emailed him last week. Have not heard back. Basically I reordered the front wheels and they should be here today.

Here is a crappy pic of the front but I was having to hold it up there and take the pic. This is with the caliper removed. Face of the abutment bracket hits on the step down.

That's odd. You got a different rear back-space than he recommended so I didn't think much of it but the fronts are correct. I dunno. Maybe he meant 4.25. Hopefully he'll get back to you. Glad you didn't mount the tires first, I probably would have.

Yes I went 8's in the back instead of 10's. So that's why the rear bs is different.

Update, I got the 4.25" BS front wheels and they fit fine. These are on a standard hoop not a reversed hoop. 4.25 is the least BS they can do without reversing. For the rears I'm having to mill down the parts that are hitting to clear the face of the brake drum. I've never worked so hard to fit a 15" wheel in my life.. Haha.

So the front 4.25's did fit the front? Are you running drop spindles and if so, which ones?

I'm running the mcgauphrys (sp?) 2.5" spindles. I needed a 5/16" spacer to clear the tie rod end. Not exactly what I wanted to do and why I was willing to pay for the custom backspace, but cannot see any other way to do it with an 8" wheel and a drop spindle. Yes the non reversed hoop does fit the caliper like it should.

Thanks for the info. I haven't bought spindles yet, so just checking. I found some old school Cragars with 4.25 bs. I figured I'd have to run spacers and wanted to get a few different ones to see what worked the best.

1/4" might work depending on the wheel. 5/16" for sure should work.

So the rear drum face on the very outside where it protrudes out was also hitting on the rear face of the wheel where the stamping folds in the detail. I had to mill off almost a 1/2" from this area to clear. These wheels are 3.5" backspace are are the absolute MOST you can go with a reversed wheel in the back. Any more and the fins would hit the inner step. Again, maybe Joe will chime in at some point. But for now this is all I know about the wheels that I received. Sure wish I would have trial fit them before powder coating. I did find some paint that was an almost perfect match to my powder coat though so after milling and deburring I hit the bare metal with some paint.

Just to continue this thread so anyone looking in the future knows what I did.

Now that I'm using the 4.25" BS front wheels, the inner lip hits the tie rod end. So, I'm running a 5/16" wheel spacer. 1/4" can probably be used but the little extra space is nice.

Now that the spacers are on the wheel studs are too short. I spent 2 days looking around at Dorman, ARP, Baer, Moser and all the other big boys only to not find what I really wanted. I wanted a 1/2" 20 stud with the proper .62" knurl and the correct length shoulder to fully support the stud. I don't know if this was really necessary however I finally found what I was looking for in some trailer studs. These are grade 8 studs and spec'd out for 7k lbs trailer axles in a 6 lug pattern. The 5 lug pattern will lower their capability some but they should still be way strong enough.

I bought these at my local distributor for about $1 each, so they are economical too! These studs have a 2" UHL so they are also the perfect length for anything up to a 3/8" spacer.

You will see that the chamfer does come down into the wheel mounting surface some but sine the wheel spacer has a 5/8" hole it dosn't cause any issue.
