New wilwood brakes on drawing board

I purchased a set of Wilwood pro spindles for my C10 off a board member here a few weeks ago. Now I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a big brake kit to go with the spindles ( MCBMatt has the best price I've found ). I've got a couple questions for you guys regarding this upgrade. I'm currently running ECE 2.5" drop spindles + 2" drop springs. Front HD GM brakes 73-87 ball joints and tie rods. new parts to go in: 831-14202: pro spindles for 71 thru 87 C10 140-15304: AER06: black 6 piston calipers, 14" rotors dr/sl -- SS flexible lines -- possibly new drop springs for heavier BBC 1) If you guys were picking caliper colors for a Hugger Orange truck what would you put on it: black or red with white letters. 2) In the installation notes for the spindles and brake kit I find this: "THIS BRAKE KIT HAS A HUB OFFSET OF: This Hub Offset will move the wheels inward or outward from the fender by this amount on each side of the vehicle" This is concerning me a bit but I can't find any other reference to this "offset" anywhere else in the doco. Anybody know the offset for these? I'll put a call in to support Monday, but looking for answere from the board if it's available. 3) I'm running a BBC on SBC front springs I'm pretty sure as I cannot get all the bounce/float out of the ride with new shocks ( stock/standard shocks ). Would you all suggest my going to BBC rated drop springs ( if available ) or upgrading the shocks to more aggressive ones? I've read where somebody had the same problem on the board and went with BBC springs ( standard ) and cut off a coil or two. This leads me to believe BBC DROP springs aren't available. 4) are there any caveats to this type of upgrade I'm maybe not considering? Thanks ladies and gents, -klb

I have those same spindles they are a nice part. I went with a 14 inch two piece rotors. My Blazer is going to be dark blue and I wrestled with the question of red or black myself. The red were back ordered for 4 to 6 weeks and the black was in stock. That made the decision for me and I am not regretting it.
It really is personal preference.

Orange and red don't play well together. I'd go black.

I believe it was the 14 inch two piece super light with six piston calipers upfront. And 13 inch to piece in the rear.
I’m pretty sure that’s what it was but I would have to check with my summit receipts. Nice stuff. I went to Hydratech Hydroboost also. I haven’t really driven it except around the parking lot. So true impressions of them are yet to be seen. They look nice though.

I would consider the Ridetech Streetgrip coil springs, they have a BBC option

I have them as well. I got them from mcb parts. They are great people to deal with. Have bought more items from them since, including the brake kits for the front and rear. (Front..140-15303,rear 10093) . As to your questions....1 ..go with the blk. They will suit your color combo better. Also, if u change your mind on color choice, it will still work with the blk. 2...they have the same track width as stock. That is a general statement in all the kits. Some models/ makes do have an offset but yours doesn’t.3.. As for the springs, u need the correct springs. As stated, ridetech is a very good start. American made springs . If u keep it the way it is, u are going to go thru shocks faster and the springs will wear out quicker due to the extra weight of the big block.
If there is 1 thing u may want to look at its the steering box. If it’s worn, replace with a quick ratio unit. Company’s like borgenson and cpp sell them. If u are going thru the trouble of a big brake kit, why not put n a box that can show u what those brakes can do. Just my 2 cents. But regrets....NONE! |
