Redneck body shop

You know you bought it from a redneck if......................

I bought this knowing it had some damage from an accident, but didn't expect this. Bondo covering the middle half of the drivers rear fender.

Any body else got pictures or story's along these lines????

My passenger side fender looked like this just after I bought it.

Then I decided to see how bad it really was...

Same story with my bed sides . All sorts of dents and wobbles hidden by 1/2 inch of bondo. Same thing with the tailgate. But at least there isn't much other rust... at least none I've found yet.

You can check out my website to see the rest of my bondo-woes.

ahh , the old cave&pave. I have seen a lot of "body shops" do this to cars going on low cost used car lots.

Bought my 70 from a bodyshop owners kid. He wrecked it the day before I was suppose to pick it up. He then fixed it. Two years later got in a wreck. Some of the body panels and floor pans didn't look right. He had siliconed stop signs in the floor pans as patch panels (behind the seat) and then lets not get into the patch of bondo that fell off in the wreck.

A good friend of mine bought a '55 Chevy short-step from a redneck years ago.

How do I know the previous owner was a redneck?

When we went to fixing the cab corners....we pulled several old Pabst Blue Ribbon cans out of the hole. These were the 'steel'-type cans that required a can opener to open them (pre-pop tab days)...so we knew that the repair was done a long time ago. The beer cans (along with copious amounts of newspaper) were used as 'backing' for the bondo.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I wish "e-fabman" was alot closer to Kansas City! His type of expertise and attention to detail is hard to find around here.

I just removed an old Oregon license plate that was used as a floor patch on my '67 stepside. I guess they cut the hole too big for the floor shifter and did not want to fall through...LOL!

when i was a kid I bought a chevelle laguna ( you know with the swivel seats) . I bought it at a crappy used carlot. One day when I was washing it my hand went through the rear quarter panel in front of he rear wheel.! The bondo was so thin that you could practically shave with it! Good" hide it" job but its not very durable.

i was talking to this old guy in the area and he had a 1971 challenger and when he opened the trunk there was a stop sign on the side of the trunk. turns out he had bought the car with a large dent in the rear fender so he cut out the dent and patched it with a steel stop sign. from the outside you could not tell that there was any body work done

I bought a '67 Suburban from a good ol' boy in Mesa, 10 years ago, It had a "hillbilly stick" holding up the hood instead or a passenger side hood hinge/spring assembly. A piece of tapered 1x3 about 4 1/2' long, with black electric tape in the middle to keep it from splitting further. I put in a $25 hood hinge from a junkyard [you could still get 'em then] and was happy.

Like SLS's story -- I also found some flattened aluminum Pepsi cans JB-Welded into the rusted-out tub corners of a '72 K/5 I bought as a rolling frame. It had seen some rough duty as a surf buggy, judging from the surfboard decals on the windshield, and the rusty spots in wierd places.
