Soldering a resistor in the "L" line is easy and proven to work.
Yup me either---and I just rebuilt the one I am trying to install and I didn't see anything of the kind...

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I looked at how my CS144 is wired in my 94 Caprice...it has a single 4 gauge running over to the battery and only two, maybe 18 gauge, wires coming out of the plug....now I know this car has a PCM but how does the alt sense the load and adjust accordingly? There are only two brown wires and one is for an light and the other is voltage sense. There isn't even a jumper from the charge termical over to the plug...wierd. This is roughly the same car my truck alt came out of.

Sorry Mike,I don't know how GM wired up the Caprice.

I'd need a schematic to figure it out.

Almost sounds like a one wire set-up,in the way the charge wire goes directly to the battery.

I can't see GM useing a 1 wire set-up though.

I'm sure there is a load signal getting to the ECM somehow.
