How to remote start to check things on engine?

I almost always by myself when i am working on my 79 C10. I have one of them push button switch that has 2 wires with aligator clips. I have key switch in the run position, one clip on + side of battery other clip on purple wire at firewall bulkhead. And i get nothing when button is pressed.

It has to clip on the small post with wire on starter, not the bulkhead.

I knew that would work at the starter. But i just thought it would be so much easier at the firewall. I still dont understand why it would not work?

I don't think the firewall connection goes to the correct pin/stud of the starter the firewall one is the same as the big positve cable, not the solenoid engagement.

Anyone got a photo of best setup of a two clip remote starter button? I am just being overly careful, knowing my dumb self I'll blow something up...

Did Chevrolet wise up on the LS engines and put the solenoid on the fender? Also, I'm pretty sure I have seen someone swap a fender-mounted solenoid in a Chevy.

Re: How to remote start to check things on engine?

Not sure about that stuff but is this correct? Allow the remote switch to take the v12 going to the starting and allow clouser on the "S" termal?

I find this simple photo in the other thread (not related to remote starting). I think it is a correct / simple diagram?

Me too. I have a "bump switch" mounted where the cigarette lighter used to be, as a permanent solution, on a couple of my vehicles.
