correct length of 350 oil dipstick

I lost the original dipstick the my 79 and so replaced it with a junyard dipstick but now it seems like it is to long. I just changed oil 5 quarts and it is way over the full line. I thought sbc dipsticks were all the same but I guess not. Can someone give me the correct length? So when I go back to the junkyard I can get the right one.
Thanks

I hate to replace the tube. My 76 350 dipstick is 18 1/2" from under the cap to the end.

Re: correct length of 350 oil dipstick

If you know for sure the amount oil that your truck took you could just re-mark the dip-stick. Just do not use any van dip-stick in your truck cut it down re-mark it. you have to get the same engine and oil pan as your had( yr, dip stick side left or right, in-let tube style, stock pan or not )
I hope some of this may help

I have one on the wall from a 75 350. Dipstick measures 19 1/2 and tube measures 6 1/2 from top of tube to block

Looks like these dip sticks are all over the place.
My 75 350 has a 8 inch long tube and a 21 inch long shaft.

Re: correct length of 350 oil dipstick

On my hot rod builds I use an aftermarket stick.... Add 4 quarts of oil with a new filter.....Start the car, run it a minute or so, check and mark the stick, add the last quart, run the car, mark the stick, done
