Starter solenoid wiring

I'm replacing all the wiring in my 72 C20 with a painless performance wiring kit. When I was wiring the starter last night, I noticed the two smaller lugs on the starter solenoid were jumpered together. Is this normal? The painless kit only has the purple wire going to the starter solenoid start terminal and I've not seen this jumper on a starter before, but the truck started and ran fine when it was wired this way.

I still have a way to go before I'm ready to power on and test the system, so hopefully this won't be an issue.

I have seen the wire jumper trick before but with the yellow hooked up normally.
Likely someone thought the jumper was needed to make the hei run.

Back in the day...

Points controlled distributors had a resistor wire going to the coil for power. This gave the points around 9 volts while the engine was running. It reduced wear on the points electrical contacts. The 2nd small wire on starter solenoids would go to the coil at the power connection where the resistor wire connects to. This would give 12 volts to the coil during cranking. This helps for a hotter spark while cranking.

Should have had no problem having the two small solenoid terminals connected but agree with others, no reason to connect in that way. Definitely would not look correct.
