Bought me a 2nd 67...

Recently acquired my second 67. Except instead of swb c10 this time I bought a lwb c20. I’ll get pics up soon, however, I have already started working on making her safer on the road. Factory 327, SM465, 2WD. First on the list: Ebrake didn’t work at all... upon investigation found a Dana 60 (not the original axle) that had been haphazardly installed in the back (my 12 year old can lay a better weld) and no e brake cables were present. So I decided why not just do disk brakes all the way around. A buddy has an old totaled square body 2WD 3/4 with the front suspension still intact and disk brakes up front I’ll be robbing parts off of and I picked up a AAM “GM 14 bolt” out of a 99 2500 with 3.73 gears (Dana 60 was 4.10) and disk brakes. Figuring out how to make that e brake system work with the truck took some time but I have an idea and I’ll post pics once I have it working. Also, was given a serpentine belt system off of a 96 4.3 out of an s10 blazer that I’m gonna use and change the truck over to power steering and hydroboost brakes. That should make her turn and stop nicely. After that I will be working on the very minimal rust issues and then I’m gonna try my hand at paint and body. I will post pics of progress as soon as I can.

Re: Bought me a 2nd 67...

I am in for this Ride.

I would like to see your 14 year old driving this when it is done.

That is when I got my (First Car) at 14 years old

Of course I drove it in the back of a 40 acre field

Re: Bought me a 2nd 67...

That’s the plan although he doesn’t know that yet. Lol he’s been helping along the way and asking A LOT of questions (most of which pertain nothing to the truck, lol).

Re: Bought me a 2nd 67...

Thank y’all! It looks to be fun. So far I thought the rust was contained to outer rockers, one cab corner and the lower fender cup passenger side. However today when the sun finally poked its head out of the clouds for a brief minute I was trying to get my freshly built carburetor to run right and noticed about a quarter size hole in the upper drivers side firewall just below where the cowl bolts in. Oh well nothing a scab piece and some welding won’t cure. I’ve never done rust repair before but I figure I’ve watched enough videos and done enough research I can do it. So I’m either gonna fix it or I’ll keep fixing it until it’s right! Lmao

Re: Bought me a 2nd 67...

Ok guys need opinions…

Almost have the 99 GM 14 bolt (disk brakes) fabbed in. Decision I have to make is keep the original second half of the driveshaft and just do a universal U-Joint to go between the yoke on the shaft and the yoke for the rear end. Or have the second half rebuilt and put the yoke that matches the “new” rear axle on the new shaft. Not sure which way to go here. Any opinions on this?

Also, I think I’ve figured out how to make the emergency brake from the GM 14 bolt work with the original pull handle from the 67… I will post pics of how I do it provided it works!

I'd only use a "combination" U joint as a temporary fix. Have a proper drive shaft made properly!!! No telling what any of the old drive shaft has been through, the tubing on ALL the old stuff, was TOO small, also!!!

Re: Bought me a 2nd 67...

Well dropped the driveshaft off to have a new one constructed for the new axle. Should be done next week. Working on the tracbar issue at the moment. Going to go with an adjustable but looking like I’m going to have to make my own as I can’t seem to locate one for a C20 that looks like it will work. I’m going to push over to the trailing arm for attachment instead of the axle tube. Will 1.25” DOM do the trick?
