LT1 engine swap
I have a 1994 LT1 in a Camaro project that I can not work on since pushing in and out of the garage is to hard now due to a knee injury. Again.
Right now I am going through a series of what if's on my soon to be C10 rcsb stepside. The engine and tranny were claimed to be good when the soon to be previous owner wanted to take it up a notch. I am not trying to knock his credibility, but I have to be cautious as I move forward on this project. With time, and money on a slim ideal budget. I will spend more if I have to, but I rather put that off for a future day. I have been looking for what it takes to put a LT1 into a C10, and it mentions ac interference issues. Some deal with this by removing or relocating the AC. So it no longer wants to hit the cross member or sit on it. Since in recent years I have grown soft, and spongy. I want to keep AC. Combined with with the LT1 falling out of what favor it did have the brackets are no longer available. Or atleast that is what I found. So I remember people modifying there crossmembers for more clearance, and I am prepared to do that. Does anyone have pics of what needs to be done or diememsions. |

Re: LT1 engine swap
As others have said, LT1's have a diff accessory drive because of the gear driven water pump. If your engine has the corvette accessory drive, it won't be hard to swap. If you have the camaro/caprice drive, then you will have fitment issues.

I thought all 3 needed the crossmember notched? Just to different extents. I am planning to go with the Camaro or Caprice water pump for heater reasons. The Vette does it a weird way that can bypass my heater core with out there complete setup. So when I get the spare motor I will use its front drive to make the mods I need.
Either way that is a project for another time as the mighty yet underpowered 305 runs like a peach. So I will just gather parts for the swap, and make a test bed for the crossmember. My 83 is a light duty truck with 1" rotors, and I want C20 gear for bigger brakes. |
