Trailer Hitch

Summit Racing's website says the Curt 13401 hitch will fit a 72 Blazer. Have any of you installed one with a factory skid plate in place? Looking at the picture on the website and the underside of my Blazer I'm not sure if it will fit.

I could fab one up, but with as many projects as I've got going on, the $160 they're asking for it seems like a good deal.

Re: Trailer Hitch

U-Haul still makes hitch assemblies that are built specifically for the 69-72 blazers. I haven't purchased one although I think a few others on the board have. Searched and found at least one post on it:

U-Haul part # = 75914

Link for pix and part number on an installed truck - start at post #30.

U-Haul details - https://www.uhaul.com/Trailer-Hitche...eId=24161&ship

Install directions link (from U-haul site)

Re: Trailer Hitch

I have the Uhaul hitch. If I remember right I only had to drill two holes. I don’t have a skid plate so I can’t speak to if it fits with it.

Re: Trailer Hitch

Thanks. Is there any chance you could get me a picture of the forward end of the hitch? That's where I'm concerned about interference with the skid plate.

Re: Trailer Hitch

I have the U-Haul 2" receiver hitch and the factory gas tank skid plate on my '71 Blazer; they both fit nicely. I am very happy with the fit of this hitch and recommend it.

Couple of things to keep in mind when you order this U-Haul hitch:
1) They are made to order; you prepay and wait for it to be manufactured and shipped.
2) They would not ship to me or to the U-Haul rental places in my small town; I had to have it shipped to a U-Haul hitch installation location in the next town 100 miles away where I had to pick it up.

I can double check but I think I reused the two rear holes shown in the pictures above, and drilled four front holes.

Re: Trailer Hitch

I went with a hidden hitch from classic industries. Hitch lines up in the middle of the license plate.

It mounts with 3 holes on the bottom of each frame rail. The rear most bolt lines up with the gas tank skid plate bolt.

Re: Trailer Hitch

Some of the hidden hitches require removing the "L" gussets riveted to the underside of the frame (only applicable to 4x4s) which the lower spring shackle bolt goes through. This was a deal breaker for me, so I went with the U-Haul hitch which mounts to the outside of the frame.

Would you happen to have a part number? And price?

Thanks

Re: Trailer Hitch

You will need to find one used as the ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) that makes the hidden hitch above sold their business to Holley and they don't appear to sell many of the original ECE suspension, hitch, etc. components.

Looks like the original price was $219

Here is a 'for sale' ad from many years ago if you wanted to see the set up.

You are correct, it was from Early Classic Enterprises. I hadn't realized they had been bought out

I removed mine. I plan to drill a hole through the side plates and use a longer bolt instead.

Re: Trailer Hitch

I just ordered an U-haul hitch for mine. We will see how it fits when it shows up.

I received my Uhaul hitch exactly 6 weeks after ordering.

Re: Trailer Hitch

How many holes did you have to drill to mount it?
