Power window recommendations
I am considering the "A-1 Electric-life" power window kit for a conversion in my '68 pickup. Anybody have experience with them, good or bad? Also any pictures of, or recommendations on what type of switches to use that cover the window crank hole and look "right" would be much appreciated. Fairly easy job, right?
Thanks! Dan

I don't remember where I saw it (I think it was a tech article in Classic Trucks) but they installed a kit that the switch for the window was actually the old window crank. You couldn't look and tell that it had power windows.

Yep, those are the ones to get. Several of us on the board have installed that kit and its straightforward and easy. Bolts right into where the regulator goes now. Just have to decide how to run the switches and which design you like the best. Very easy install, with step by step instructions even on the website. A-1 Electric and Speedo. Good luck, Jeff.

I don't have a better pic at the moment but you can kind of see the switches I went with from A-1 Electric. Mounted over the existing window crank hole and covered it completely.

Yes, the power window kit only replaces the stock manual window regulator and replaces it with a power regulator. In my truck, I also replaced the wing windows with one piece door glass.

I like the one piece windows, would definitely do them again on another truck. I did not get the one-touch auto module for the power windows and didn't use any relays on the install. It's fairly straight foward wiring and easy to do.

This is a SPAL unit that was in these doors when I bought them, they work great when I tested them and they use the existing regulator. The door panels were custom made but from what I can tell it wasn't because of the power unit. I'm going to put the switches in a console. If I live long enough to finish this thing.

the drivers side is out but u see still see the idea. or course itd be ideal to install the switch over that hole but i think i had clearance issues with the switch i used. plus i was planning on reupholstering it anyway so it would be covered. it was also a more comfortable reach to hit the switches than reaching all the way up, but thats petty to some

70Blazin and Gabet40, I sure like the looks of those chrome GM style switches, now I'm think maybe I should have went with that style as well.
70Blazin, does your t-case shifter knob look like a brown tint all the time or just in the pics? Your Blazer is awesome by the way, wanna trade?

Vtblazer- they do sell power door locks too, but I couldn't talk my hubby into them....I should have tried harder Those would be sweet. And yeah we did replace the felt and strips too. Now we are just trying to figure out how to get the door to not seperate where the 72 door has that screw?!?
Pont- Just looks brown in the pic, but we have since replaced it with a new one...just a "8 ball" one from Autozone- and matching door locks.- not my taste, but my hubby like them....gotta let him win sometimes, eh? P.S. - Wacha wanna trade for? Di |

They do sell power locks too. I got my set from JC Whitney though. Went with the keyless entry. Was a little cheaper that way. I think you can still get a kit with all of it from them for under $100. And its pretty much the same stuff.
Diane, I like the chrome switches too. Thinking maybe I'll change mine around. I have the black, lighted switches now. Jeff.

Thanks for all the input. I think I may be leaning toward the black switches Pont used as opposed to the original style chrome, although I seem to be in the minority. A-1 has a lot of switch options! I like the idea of the one-touch down option too.

drenwick, don't get me wrong, I do like my black switches which are lighted like red71's. I just thought that most people tended to like the stcok GM style and I agree, they do look good. Go with whatever makes you happy, that's what it's all about!
Di, seein how you have to ask what I want to trade, I'm guessing you could care less about my truck so let's back step a bit. Di, I've got my body up for trade, would you be interested in given up that blazer??? You might wanna think about my truck. Though it's not worth much, it's worth more than my body!!!
