Repop SPIDs

I am currently in the market for a new (old) truck. I saw one today that had a pristine SPID. Looked too good. Are SPID sheets being repopped? I know trim tags are repopped for old muscle cars but those are illegal in Oklahoma.

Would hate to buy a fully loaded truck that wasn't. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/i...ilies/waah.gif

Re: Repop SPIDs

Thanks. Not looking for one but good to know they may not be original to the truck they are installed on.

A lot of them still are in almost pristine shape. My 71 had been worked like a dog but my wife grandfather never used the glove box and it looks perfect. A big clue is also the condition of the paint on the inside or the glove box

Re: Repop SPIDs

Link is no good - do you have a picture of the SPID?

There's nothing wrong with repop-ing a SPID - what is wrong, though not illegal that I'm aware (it's not like a metal VIN tag), is re-poping one for the purpose of claiming it is something it is not in a future sale. Altering the VIN on one to make it match in the case of a cab swap or frame match or both would probably start to nibble on the limits of legality - however, the metal VIN tag is what truly matters on the trucks, it should not be removed.

Chipflyer is pretty much the only source I'm aware of for getting a correct looking SPID reproduced. Some folks simply redo their original when they restore it and re-pop of original SPID is a finishing touch; some folks have one made as though it is their dream truck, matching the factory upgrades they've made. As long as a seller is honest about it, there is no problem. Personally, I think a good approach, if you want to re-pop your SPID, is to keep the original SPID on the original gb door, and remove the gb door completely. Put the repop SPID on another gb door that you are painting or matches the truck - but save the original on the original gb door to be able to show any prospective buyer the original (or simply reinstall it at sale time if you didn't change the paint color. Just a thought. I haven't had a SPID made by chipflyer, but he's made several door VIN/mfgr date stickers for me over the years to replace almost destroyed ones - he does superb work.

Re: Repop SPIDs

Went back to get a pic of the SPID and darned if the truck wasn't already sold. After one or two days I think. Guess it wasn't mean to be mine!

Thanks for all of the information!
