Well, powdercoating does not fill pits, so I ended up sanding down from the front cab mount forward, doing some bodywork, and repainting it anyway. Powdercoating is more durable than paint though, but I found no problems on previous frames I've 'painted' Powdercoating would most likely be quite a bit cheaper for someone such as yourself I had 2 quarts of SEM Hot rod Black along with 2K primer and black sealer on this one. So probably about $300 plus my time.
