From the Factory, what color would the underside of the hood be?
Would it have been “Body Color”?
Or did they come out painted Satin Black?

They are black. Don't know the sheen though. Probably satin.

I believe it depends on what plant it came from, I have seen them both ways.

I have also seen them both ways.
On My truck, the underside is black, (70 Custom/10, not a lot of options from the factory).
Maybe the higher optioned trucks were body color? I don’t know.

My 71 Super was black from the factory. Painted body color now.

I have heard there is a certain black that Chevy used, but I don't know any particulars.
My '72 K20 underhood is black..... if I had to guess, I would say it's a satin black.

My 68 GMC, body color and the truck has never had a repaint. 503 color.

It’s the black EDP coating that’s exposed. Not painted black per se. Original hood undersurfaces have varying degrees of body color over spray.

This is correct. It will vary by plant, model year and individual operator.

My 71 GMC Custom was hugger orange under the hood to match the body color. I know for sure this was original as the vehicle was my wife’s grandfathers and never repainted

Just checked my '69 C 10 . It's body color on the latch end , rest of it looks unpainted . Might of been dark gray when new ? My late Father in law bought this truck new and it's never been painted . Thanks !

My 72 K20 Super was black but I think I'm going to paint it body color..just think it looks better IMO

My 67 bought new in 1967. Built in the Atlanta plant. Has never been repainted and has Black underside of hood. Here a photo.
