How much paint??
Almost ready to shoot my k20 longbed. How many gallons of paint does it take. I'm using Nason bc/cc over 2k urethane primer. It will be two tone, white and blue. The bottom of cab and bed are undercoated, so no paint there. Will a gallon of each color be enough? I don't want to run short since I'm doing a color with a lot of pearl in it. But I don't want a $400 gallon of paint sit on the shelf either. Thanks.

Re: How much paint??
Hello from Sedalia, Mo.
It all depends on your painting skills. A gallon of each color should be enough with some of the color left over IF you can shoot it once and be done. I assume that two-tone means white cab top with the bold white stripe all the way around with the interior and inner bed being shot with color? The white would be less than a gallon, but the color could be more like 1-1/4 gallons with the above full paint job. In my case with a two tone paint job (single stage), I used almost two gallons of each, but I'm no expert painter and sanded down several pieces and shot again.

Re: How much paint??
Also depends on if you are painting the inside of the cab. It took me more than one gallon of primary color.

Re: How much paint??
I don't know about bc/cc, but we just did a two tone (white top & center) with single stage - used 2 wet coats. It took almost a gallon of the white and little over a gallon & a half of green. Just inside of cab, inside of bedsides & cutting everything in ate up alot more paint than we expected on the green.

Re: How much paint??
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I better get 2 gallons of color and 1 gallon of white. Hopefully going to be shooting the cab, doirs, fenders, and hood this weekend.

Re: How much paint??
I'll chime in here
I bought 2 gallons of a light blue color and 2 quarts of the white/ivory. I had a gallon of blue left over. Used all Ivory/white. Painted entire cab except for the bottom. Painted inside and outside of fenders and hood. Painted entire bed(not wood floor). Outside of grill. Basically the whole truck. Inner fenders and core support painted black. Inside bed wheelhouses also painted black. I put raptor liner that I tinted with the Basecoat on the bottom of the cab. This came out of the left over gallon. That was a 1968, White cab roof, grill and from the body line down, and tailgate letters. PPB DBC basecoat. I believe I did 3 coats of base everywhere. I started out with 2 and was seeing some thin spots. Not sure what color you are doing and how it will cover, but if I had mine to do again. I'd do 1.5 gallons of color and 3quarts of white. |

Re: How much paint??
I can't offer any help on your question, but I'm sure we'd all love to see the results of your shoot! Nothing pops like new paint! Good luck!
