You can get adapters for the newer ones to fit the 95. Some advertised as 95 are really newer ones with pigtails to fit the 95 dash.

71gmc: 95&96 dash are the same save for the obd connector. 97up have the airbag or pocket (2500/3500). The transmission isn't that bad - it's mostly just different electronics and they don't die quickly if you take care of them, like adding a cooling fan and using an all aluminum high quality radiator.

Yes it is a bastard year so it does make some repairs interesting
