heres a few pictures of mine during the refurbish.

Rofl! Thanks TX.... mine doesn't have the upper mount.. its basicaly that bottom part. What's the difference? Yours looks much more study having 4 mount points.

I always felt that those 4 wings on the crossmember were meant to tie the frame rails together side to side. I really don't think the crossmember has to do much work as far as locating or supporting the transmission. I've seen guys slide he crossmember in and bolt the trans to it, but leave all 8 bolts out that hold it to the frame, with no problems.
