My progress this morning

I took the morning off and went to the body shop to get some stuff done. Body guy was supposed to have the doors ready to be hung, course he did not have them ready. I did get the hydroboost brake cylinder mounted along with the pedal assembly. I couldn't mount the hydraulic clutch cylinder as the body guy did not paint a shim that I needed to mount the cylinder. Also got the heater box (interior and exterior) mounted, got the powersteering and alternators + brackets mounted on the engine. Also wiped down the engine as it has gotten pretty dirty sitting at the body shop. Actually set back and did some looking at the firewall and took some pics of how it is. Not too bad of a hack job

Sure was nice getting this stuff mounted while the front clip was off, nothing like being able to stand on the ground and wrench rather than having to climb into the engine compartment.

Oh by the way, where did you get your hydroboost brake system? I'm planning on installing one also.

I must have been away from the board awhile. Last time I saw pictures of your truck it had just gotten back from the paint shop with the whole firewall intact. But Dubie has caught me up to speed on whats going on. The firewall looks good as does the rest of the truck. Keep up the progress.

Unfortunately truck hasn't come home yet.

Bram, the hydroboost system is off a 1989 1 ton 2wd Chevy that I bought for the 454. I'm also using the hydraulic clutch off of it. If you go this route, let me know, I have a template I can mail you of the reinforcement plate I built and it would be useful to you. You definitely want to reinforce the firewall with this type of setup.

Looking awesome Mark, I personally think it sucks that you are way ahead of me in the "fixin and doing it right" department! I feel like I'm driving a basket case after seeing all that you have done! Come to think of it, I am driving a basket case!!!

Good job man........

It's based off of a Saturn silver metallic color but a little lighter and with more metalic. Body guy mixed it up once I showed him the paint sample I liked and told him what I wanted done to it.

Fyi

I have an '80 1/2 ton that came from the factory with a 5.7 diesel in it, & it has hydroboost. (diesels don't produce vacuum needed for the power brakes). There must be a grunch of them in the boneyards because the 5.7's weren't a long life engine. Mine was converted to a 350 gas in '85.

Took Friday off and spent it at the body shop. Was a good motivator, now my body guy has my doors sprayed. Told him the day before I was gonna come and help him, I don't think he believed me - but sure enough that got my doors in the shop and finally prepped. I had to leave at about 5 but he called me about 9pm and they are now finally painted. I made sure I stayed long enough that he would have to paint them that day or waste all the final prep work.

I got my belts and fan on the engine and got my power steering high pressure line modified so it will work with my steering box. The line comes from the hydroboost master cylinder so I had to have the metric o-ring end cut off and a normal SAE style flare end put on it's place.

Here is the steering column ready for paint. Cowl is also ready. Maybe they will get sprayed today.

Body guy finally got my shim painted so I was able to get the hydraulic clutch mounted on the firewall.

He has misplaced one of my door hinges and is looking for it or knows a friend he can get one from. After the cowl, steering column, tranny hump, glove box, radio delete and ashtray are painted, he should be done with color.

Then he needs to spray the underside of the hood black along with the emergency brake, 4 speed and transfer case shift boot rings and the radiator support brackets.
