transmission problems

I seem to be working in all different directions, but as of late, I finally got my truck running and took it for a quick spin to find that the transmission won't shift out of low gear. It was parked for a couple years, but everything seemed good, no leaks, put new seals in and couldn't drive until I had a few other things repaired. Goes in reverse and works in low gear, just won't change gears. Any ideas what might be the problem??

Re: transmission problems

What kind of transmission is it? Turbo 350?
How high did you rev the engine? I'm wondering if it would shift into second eventually if you revved high enough. Maybe the the vacuum modulator is disconnected from your intake manifold.

Re: transmission problems

The TH 400 trans is the same way. Check the hose at the modulator on the trans. If it has oil in line the modulator is bad.

Re: transmission problems

Yep did the same thing when I replaced the engine and trans.

Drove it down the street and the turbo 350 wouldn't come out of first.

Pulled back into the driveway and my vacuum modulator line was sitting there waiting for me.

Re: transmission problems

Sorry, I forgot to say it is a 350 trans. I'll check the modulator; I know the vacuum line is attached, but I know little else about this trans. I only drove it a couple miles and can't remember much about the trip except it wouldn't change gears.
