A shroud is a very important part of the cooling setup. The ring should be within 1/2" of the tips of the fan, and the box should tightly cover as much of the radiator core as possible. Forces the draft the fan pulls to suck it through the radiator. Otherwise it's just thrashing the air in the engine compartment around. Neat 'ol beater!
