What material are the tops made out of?
Fiberglass? Also, they can be painted right?

what have y'all used to paint them...i figure since they have a rough finish, that they can be brushed/rolled with outdoor quality paint...i also thought about roll-on bedliner but want to make sure that it will come out ok.
Thanks, -Nick

Smokin, if you are trying to re-paint a top with the original look type finish, then I would suggest Dominion Sureseal Gatorguard II. It is a type of bedliner finish that happens to replicate the original texture fairly closely. At least closer than the other bedliners on the market. It is applied with a Shutz gun from your home air compressor. If you check out my website, you can see a few pictures of the look. Page 3 of the Cardomain website has this.
If you are going to re-paint over the existing texture, then just be sure the texture is 'tight' against the top. After years in the sun, the texture tends to loosen or chip in places, and your new paint will go with it. If you want to paint the top smooth, then all you need to do is sand the top to the finish you need, make any fiberglass repairs of imperfections, then prime and paint. It's fiberglass, and very forgiving and easy to work with. However, if painting smooth, then the top will need to be free of wobbles and bumps, because it will show up.. Good luck, Greg.

how durable and strong are the tops? Can they take some abuse? would it be wise to just go ahead and re-fiberglass the whole top before you paint it?

If teh top is not cracked or broken, there is no reason to re-fiberglass anything. Just paint it and go.
