Purple wire on GMC front signal connector
I am wiring a GMC C10 using a American Autowire Power Plus 20 harness. I am wiring up the the headlights and turn signals. On the original connector for the front turn signal the connector has 3 wires coming out of it. The colors are dark brown, light blue and a purple wire. Not sure what do I connect the purple wire to. Can someone help out.
Thanks, Ramiro |

Re: Purple wire on GMC front signal connector
Prior to 1968, vehicles, including trucks didn't have side marker lights.. When side marker lights were introduced, the front markers were integrated with the front turn signals so they would blink with the turn signals.. You didn't mention the year you're working on, so I don't know if this feature applies to your project or not.. But I will make this suggestion.. Anytime electrical work of any type is being done, the first tool to pull out is a correct for the year wiring diagram.. If you don't have one, go to the ELECTRICAL forum and down load the one you need.. Most of the answers to your questions will be found there..

Purple is park
Brown is side markers (on 1970 they don't blink and not sure all even had lighted side Markers) Lt Blue is left turn signal Dk blue is Right turn signal Headlights should be a Lt Green, Tan and black

So then I would need to connect the Brown wire straight over to the brown wire on the side marker? And that would provide the power to the side marker? Re: Purple wire on GMC front signal connector
Correct, connect the brown directly to the side marker, or the wire coming off the side marker.. The brown wire is hot or will be when lights turned on. If there are lights in the side marker, there should be a ground in the housing thru the screw that attaches it to the fender. Some of mine I added a ground wire when the normal ground became corroded.

Re: Purple wire on GMC front signal connector
The side markers are plastic and do not have a ground through them. There is a 2 wire pigtail that twist locks into the side marker. Brown is power and black is ground. OR if you want the side marker to wig wag with the front marker, ground the side marker wire to the flash wire in the front. It should show that in the diagram for the later 71-72 models
