why so much? how far you going? where from where too? Uhaul is ok in my book.

When i arrived, i said a 68 and that's what they put in. Over the phone i told them my wifes 99 plymouth grand voyager. and i got a good price quote and no arguments.

I've never used anythinge else but uhaul. but shop around and see what you can find.

JunkYardJohn was on the money

Well JYJohn's warnings came true even BEFORE I hit the road with UHaul.

I called to extend my reservation and all of a sudden found out:

1 I dont hear til the day before I pick up the truck what time I get to pick it up. So I could be sitting there with my family and a $10/hour helper til 5 pm waiting for Uhaul. ANd then wouldnt have time to load before the next morning leave time

2 I don't even get to know the PLACE where I pick it up til the day before. So I could be driving all the way up to San Francisco during the rush hour (2:30 PM til & PM) to get there.

3 They dont even guarantee that there'll actually be a truck for me!!!

4 Their customer service people are rude morons who just punch me back into the automated phone-answerer when they don't know the answer to a question...and they had a REAL hard time understanding a lot of my questions. Basically just read back stock answers no matter what I asked.

5 their "Managers" are just a little smarter and less rude.

And all this is now, when I still have the chance to cancel the reservation --and I sure will. Can't imagine what they'd do if I needed help when I was on the road.

So I 'm going with Penske. Nearly twice as expensive, even with the 12% AAA discount, but at least I'm guaranteed a truck and carrier when and where I need it.

Hat's off Junkyard.

i understand your frustrations - i'd cancel as well, i was just a touch more aggressive with them. i said, you will have a truck, or you will get me one and drive it to my place with your own way back to your shop. I will know 3 days in advace that you have one.
I just paid you 150 bucks, you will have a truck!
sswj out.
tell penskee about the price of the uhaul and threaten to go back to them because of the price and watch theirs get closer and closer to the price of uhaul.
sswj out

YEP U-HAUL IS THE PITS.... I HAD SUCH A BAD EXPERIANCE WITH THEM THAT I CALLED THE DISTRICT MANAGER & TOLD HIM ABOUT ALL THE PISS POOR TREATMENT THAT I GOT FROM THEM, & HE OFFERED TO SEND ME 4 HALF OFF COUPONS FOR ANYTIME IN THE FUTURE. I TOLD HIM TO KEEP EM, & I WOULDN'T USE THEY'RE SERVICE IF IT WAS FREE. I ALSO TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD TELL EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT MY SH!TTY EXPERIANCE WITH THEM & NOT TO RENT FROM U-HAUL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
DON'T RENT FROM U-HAUL JOHN

I'm new here, so I'm not gonna say exactly what I think about their service people. But you can be sure I'm gonna let anyone and everyone I can about the piss poor treatment they tried to hand me on my nickel.

From now on my nickels stay out of UHaul's pockets.

If you do use a tow dolley don't turn too sharp or you will put a hole in your fender. My uncle owns a crunched '68 Camaro fender because he turned too sharp. Just avoid U-Turns and the like and you'll be ok. When I put my C10 on a tow dolley I had exacly 3/4" of clearance on each side in terms of the wheel base. There's more room than that for turning but I'm just trying to say it looks like it won't fit but it probably will.

OR you could put the 16 footer on the tow dolley and tug it behind your truck!!
