Question 487 vs. 487X heads

I scored a set of 487X heads for nothing (found 'em in the dirt near a guys workshop, asked and they are mine). I had them magnafluxed, and they aren't cracked. My truck currently has 487s on. My question is whats the diference between the two sets? I was told origionally that the X meant big valves, but I measured, and they are 1.94, 1.5. Somebody else said that the X heads were meatier and could be ported more. From what I can see, they may need porting, but there's no need to do any port matching. The intakes are huge, and the exhaust ports are as big as can be without being bigger than the gaskets.

Any clue?

The X means 10 extra CCs in the intake runners - at least that's what I've been told.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Nothing special. Anybody know a place where I could find out for sure?
or find a dyno200 flow file for them?

I have the same heads.
I hope you have better luck getting good info than I did.
One thing I did find out......it will cost approximately $550 to completely rebuild my 487X's. I can buy a new set of Vortecs for just about the same money.
If you find anything about those heads, let me know.

Try http://cylinder-heads.com/main.html ....call and ask for Bob Metz. I have the 487x heads too, and they rebuilt them with ALL new parts for $300. Cost me $40 to ship them UPS. Have not got the motor running yet, but they look great and service was great. They had them back in a week.
