Boat paint for top?
I recall a few posts (which I can't seem to locate now) where boat paint was used on the top. Anyone familiar with this, or have tried it? If I remember, I think one post described that it was brushed/rolled on, not sprayed. Just curious if there's an advantage to this, boat paint holds up better on the fiberglass than regular paint? Anyway, I keep searching for those posts. Thanks.

Re: Boat paint for top?
Just finished mine today using raptor bed liner. I used the tintable base tinted to Arctic White. Works very well and I shot it at 110lbs to get a finer pebble finish. Kit is about $240 but easy to do and looks great.

Re: Boat paint for top?
This was a self-leveling paint intended for boats, it could be applied with a roller and cut-in with a small brush for other places roller wouldn't reach. With the top's texture and the paint's leveling, it looked as if it were sprayed. Application sounded super easy and results were good. Maybe someone else will remember it or have used something similar.

Re: Boat paint for top?
I sandblasted (lightly), my entire top. Cleaned it, and then had the Line-x applied to it.
Very happy with the results. Pat |

Re: Boat paint for top?
I used Interlux deck paint.Mediterranean White(# INTYKA184Q). I only bought a quart.Because you thin it,it's more that enough.
It is thinned with the Interlux 333 thinner and simply brushed on. Painted mine back in 2004, still holding up just fine. .

Re: Boat paint for top?
Yes! This was the product and has to be from the post I couldn't find. I remembered it being Interlux brand now. Sad part now is that it looks like Interlux doesn't make the "Toplac" product anymore (it's not listed on their website). They have several other products that seem to have same properties.., I'm wondering if it was just re-branded? Thanks.

Re: Boat paint for top?
Ya, I posted that back in 2004.
I'll bet your right about the rebrand/rename on that line of paint.

Re: Boat paint for top?
Pretty much any marine topcoat paint with UV protect will work. You can spend a lot of money and time by using Awlgrip to get a mirror finishe. Look up "Roll and Tip" paint method. Whatever you do, wear a respirator! Good Luck!

Re: Boat paint for top?
I watched the Alexseal video that jaros mentioned, that looks pretty good, however it's a two part system. I'm pretty certain that the Toplac product BobbyK used was a single (no hardener/activator needed).
Watching the Alexseal video, he's only painting a small 2x2 area and it's already flashing before he can finish, not sure how that would work with an entire top? |

Re: Boat paint for top?
I have a 78 blazer and need to do the top . I can see the paint has wore off and can see some glass strands, do I need to put resin on these places before applying the paint ?

Re: Boat paint for top?
Thought, marine paint is heavy acrylic (Brittle), which makes it prone to cracking on flexale surfaces.
