Where can i find rims like this? (for 67 3/4 ton)

I have a 1967 Chevy 3/4 ton, and it has the old split rims on it. The thing is, I like the original style of the hubcaps, which use clips rather than the nubs used on later steel rims. I was wondering if there was a such a thing as steel rims which were not split but would take the old style of hubcaps, but I recently had that question answered thanks to this auction sale: https://dakotaauctioneers.nextlot.co.../lots/19576134

Yeah, they call it a 1969, but it was definitely a '67, and the body was in much better shape than the one I am apparently still going to restore, and had a nicer trim level, too, along with these nice rims that were exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, someone had a lot more money they could bid with than I did. I'll probably be salty about that for a while, but in the meantime finding rims like this would help a little bit, at least. Anyone know where I might find some?

Thanks, I might've found what I'm looking for already.

Now if only I could find another pick-up in as good of shape as this one was.

No, I didn't. I'm going to guess 16 inch, though. They were 8-hole rims anyway.

'67 and '68 did come with optional 16.5" 17.5 and 19.5" solid wheels and all these came with clips including the early 16.5". The wheel in your photo appears to be the 17.5". Here is a photo of a 17.5" black and the 19.5" silver, both have the correct clips.

Doubt it. Definitely dont make mine as it's a 3 piece rim . Retainer type split (not a widowmaker)

Re: Where can i find rims like this? (for 67 3/4 ton)

So I found some 7-17.5 rims. Whereabouts would a guy find some tires that size? All I seem to be able to find are 8-17.5. Would those fit on my rims?

Sure, an 8" tire will fit just right on a 7" rim

Like seriously or are you being sarcastic? I only ask because one of the random tire sites I found when I was looking for 7-17.5 said "You will need to use 8-17.5" link

An 8" wide tire for sure will fit on a 7" wheel, in fact should be just perfect.

Not uncommon at all for guys to run 12.5" wide tires on an 8" wheel. Going up one inch over wheel width is perfect

Re: Where can i find rims like this? (for 67 3/4 ton)

One thing to be aware of with 17.5 rims is that tires are limited to bias ply light truck or if you want radials then they are medium duty truck tires with 14 or more ply side walls. Which on trucks like ours ride like Flintstone wheels. But they will likely outlast the truck.
17.5's are also available in trailer tire construction but those aren't up to the sidewall loading that the front wheels on a vehicle experience.
No good choices really
Those 17.5 x 7"" wheels you have with the hub cap provisions are really rare as most are in the 5 to 6 inch range.

Every tire vendor will tell you what the manufacturer recommended wheel sizes are. The manufacturer recommends sizes to optimize wear, noise reduction, and to limit warranty claims. Millions of tires of tires are mounted and ran outside of those recommended parameters every month without issue. The ricer example below is an extreme example that you see everywhere. No manufacturer would ever recommend or consent to having their product mounted like that.

Re: Where can i find rims like this? (for 67 3/4 ton)

Huh. Kind of strange that I happened across two '67 C20s with this type of rim at two different action sales in my state this summer then. I was stoked that the one I got had them, though to be honest I'm pretty sad I didn't get the first one because its body was in much better shape. But someone had much deeper pockets than mine and must've wanted that one as much as I did. Here's a link if anyone is curious. I will always be salty over that one, because I just can't seem to find a cab besides that one which isn't rotted out in the back corners or the rockers, and doesn't have a hole drilled through the roof for a CB radio antenna.

Anyway, it's a relief that 8-17.5 will work, as I've found a couple of sites that offer them. I was kind of wondering if there might be a modern sized tire that would work that I could ask my local tire shops about, though.

Another route would be the 16.5" with clips, the GM issues of '67-'68 are very rare, bottom photo, but the aftermarket issues are more plentiful, but still considered hard to find. The Firestone Transforce radial is available in 9.50X 16.5". Top photo is an aftermarket 16.5" wheel made by Kelsey Hayes. Middle photo is member Layne '68 C20 Custom Camper with Kelsey Hayes 16.5" clip wheels with correct '68 C 20 caps. Bottom photo is rare GM 16.5" wheels with clips

Re: Where can i find rims like this? (for 67 3/4 ton)

I'll probably stick with these rims. If those 8-17.5 tires will fit, Coker Tire has some, and while I'd love to find tires that would work for less, I'm a big enough fan of these old style rims to get these expensive ones. Of course, the flip side of this is that I only have a couple of good hubcaps for them in that original style. The other two might theoretically work if I was just going to repaint them, as they would need to be pounded out and/or use body-filler to resemble their former selves, but I was really hoping to have them chromed.

Incidentally, anyone happen to know where I could find some kin good shape that aren't like $100 a pop?

Re: Where can i find rims like this? (for 67 3/4 ton)

Tire size on post #5 is 8-17.5 (black rim) and 8-19.5 on silver rim. Both of these rims are 5.25 inch wide. Tire size is correct for rim size, they do not bulge over, but does seem odd for the 2.75" difference. Tire size and diameters were confusing back then, the tire in post#6, the 7.50-17 is much larger than a 8-17.5, the same reason a 7.50-16 is a much larger tire than 8.00-16.5

Looks like an original spare tire. The 7.00-17.5 6 ply is an obsolete size, thankgod. The 8-.17.5 is the replacement size and is 8 ply. It is available in traction tread also.

These rims look great with nice paint! Those are the modern radials in the 14- 16 ply range. Many Isuzu and Hino 2 ton type trucks use 17.5's.

Used the center out of a 17.5 wheel to make 17x8 wheels to keep the correct clip style hub caps.

Oh I have all 5 rims - this is what originally came on Lot #39 of this auction.

I am actually kind of semi-tempted to get the traction tread for the back ones since that's what was originally on there, but my dad tells me that it would probably be pretty loud on the highway, so I'll probably stick to just the regular tread all around. It's good to know that 8-17.5 will work on these rims, though, as it looks like Coker Tire has them.

Looks great! This is what we have to do if the aftermarket ignores us. The Kelsey Hays wheel in post #16 is in fact a 17.5" factory center installed a wide 16.5" rim and is shown in ad below, but they were done in the 60's and 70's when camper pickups were popular. I've been calling for the need and market for an aftermarket 16" wheel with a 17.5" center ( these will have proper offset) to help out those with '48-'68 3/4 tons, but to no avail. IMO, the period correct hubcap design is essential to the year model look.
