charging gauge question
Is there an easy way to hook up a factory charging gauge? If I go to the alternator like im soposed to it doesent work. Can someone help me plz.

The stock ammeter is wired into the main electric feed that comes from the battery in the harness attached to the radiator support. On the gauge package harness there are two small fused connections on either side of the radiator. These fused connections connect to the main feed and they pick up the electrical signal that results from the resistance in the wire. It is a very low current. (If you try to tie your factory ammeter to the alternator so that all the power from the alternator flows through it, the ammeter will be instantly fried).
The easy way to hook up a factory ammeter is to get the gauge package harnesses and install them. The ammeter can be wired in if you duplicate the factory hookup. Run two #18 wires from the ammeter to the main feed. Connect one on to the main feed on the right side of the radiator and one to the main feed on the left side of the radiator. Be sure to fuse both connections, (4 amp fuses). Polarity would have to be checked as the ammeter could show discharge when it is actually charging. Jim |
