Any mud fanatics? (I have a retard Q for ya)
I've seen some pretty cool mud rigs that have their radiators out back mounted in the bed to avoid the flying goo... but how do they get the water back to the engine? Is it just rubber hose routed all the way from the front to back, probably along the frame rail or something? Seems like that much hose just waiting to be slapped with a stick and in the open is asking for trouble. I'm prtetty interested though and appreciate any and all info on the subject. Thanks.

Yeah they run rubber line all the way back usually. Often times on nice nice rigs the tube has SS mesh around it to prevent cutting/gouging. others have special shields they put along the frame rail to prevent stuff from jabbing in there and such. lots of ways to do it i suppose.

Hmm, cool. Sounds like it's sort of your own method rather than any special prcedure. The 409 has still been heating up a bit with the hot days lately and I have a monster radiator in the garage, this is why i ask. The guy i bought it from built it for a monster truck application but the guy who ordered it never came to pick it up and he let it go to me cheap... this thing doesn't fit under the hood though, too tall and too long. Be pretty sweet to lay across the bed though Thanks for the info.

Is there ever a problem of not being able to pull water from that far back and through so much pipe? Seems like a long way for the water pump to do all that work.

I'm not building a mud truck...but i wonder if you could use PVC or metal pipe for the radiator lines.....it would be alot tougher than rubber the whole way.

Maybe a combination of rubber and PCV, now that sounds cool Still wondering how easily the water can travel though.

I have a friend that stuffed a BB in a Chevy Luv and had to mount the radiator in the bed with electric fans. He ran exhaust pipe along the frame to supply water from the radiator to the engine, then used rubber hose to hook it up. Seemed to work fine with nothing other than the stock water pump.

Muffler Pipe
I race a street stock race car and I have the radiator in the back for damage/weight reasons. I used 1 1/2" muffler tubing bent and arranged nicely. The cool thing is you dont need to make any other changes. if you want to put an electric fan on it, use a 92 Ford Escort. They are a dual speed and also move the most air. if you got room run 2 of them. www.rattlesnakeraceway.com

weight
most of the trucks u have seen this on dont run that long. mud pits. its good to get as much weight behind the tranny as u can, with all the engine wight there in the front. helps to have some weight on your traction gettin tires, especially if your pulling the front from those wicked hole shots it does help to keep muddy water out of the fins too, until the clods start dropping on it.
