LS in 60-66?
Does anyone happen to have pics of how close their engine is to the firewall? I have to mod the firewall for more room for the AC but not sure how much room i will have, i know it kind of depends ultimately where i put the engine and trans mounts but just need an idea. Im putting a 5.3 in my 62.
Thanks, Scott |

Re: LS in 60-66?
PM me your e-mail and I will have my son send some pic's from his phone. I would post them on here but I'm not to computer savvy. We are finishing up a 66 with a 6.0.

Re: LS in 60-66?
Here is a 6.0 in my 65.
The back of the truck intake is 3-1/2" from the firewall. the passenger side coil is as far back as it can go without hitting the stock firewall. If the coils were relocated it could go further back. The engine is 1" forward of the original 283 mounting position based on the front face of the block. TR

Re: LS in 60-66?
Ah ok, thanks for the pic.
I got the HVAC box out of the '05 also and am trying to make my mind up if i want to rework the firewall and make it work or if there will be enough room to even do it. It would be cool to keep what i can and do it but not sure yet. |

Re: LS in 60-66?
Here is mine. I dont have AC in mine. I used Hooker Header adapters for mine and put it as far back as the adapters would let me.
Here is a picture of the adapters. Good luck with the build.

Re: LS in 60-66?
Well im working on putting mine in but i dont think that the stock exhaust manifolds are going to work because they are hitting the frame.. I have to o raise the engine up higher that you guys probably did since its going to lay out and the oil pan is the first to hit

Re: LS in 60-66?
Scott,
The Trailblazer SS or SSR stock manifolds will fit in the frame. They hug the block closer. TR

Re: LS in 60-66?
I used csls1 headers from sanderson. They are shorties and tuck real nice, look nice and sound nice.

Re: LS in 60-66?
Scott,
The stock manifolds mentioned above cleared my 65 frame without modification. There was a thread here somewhere that said they are not very expensive straight from GM. They are good manifolds by the way, used on the high HP 6.0 engines. TR

Re: LS in 60-66?
you can find tbss headers on performancetrucks and ls1tech occasionally, but I've actually had good luck finding them on CL, don't search to "TBSS" or "headers" tho.
Try using searchtempest to look through all the CL in your area, search for things like "ls1, ls2, ls3, lsx, gto" and you seem to get better hits without random hondumb parts.

Re: LS in 60-66?
Been looking around, not any close but you never know what will come up on CL.

Re: LS in 60-66?
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I am looking also for headers. I am using the Hooker Header adapters and the CPP perches on my 66 truck and I order the CSLS1 Sanderson Headers from Summit Racing, the problem is that is about a month that I order them and the date keeps changing, I had the 10/13 to be shipped, then yesterday I got another card that now is 10/23. What other headers can I use with my setup.
Thanks for your help |

I would suggest you call Sanderson directly, that is how I got mine. If they have a different vendor that has a set, maybe you can buy from that one.

Re: LS in 60-66?
I have the header problem also. I went with a set of fbody headers off eBay and made some modifications to them and my frame just to find the drivers side hits my lower A arm. I don't want to lop off a chunk of my A arm to clear and i don't think I can modify the header to make it work. I don't recommend fbody headers for a 66 this may also depend on distance from firewall and if you raised the engine.
