67-68 grill
I like the 67-68 grill look. Can I change my 71 Chevy step side to have the 67-68 look ? Any major or minor problems ? Thanks

Re: 67-68 grill
The hood and both fenders have to be changed along with the lower hood latch and the grille center support. The slope on the front changes a lot of things.

Re: 67-68 grill
And the spread on the headlights is wider in 67/68, so a core support is needed.

I am always learning from the board. I think I know these trucks till! LOL. Thanks for the clarification. I like many others love the 67-68 Grille. It is also evident GM lowered the cost to manufacture the grille as the years went on. Last edited by Accelo; 01-01-2022 at 02:20 PM. |

Your best bet would be to change the whole front clip as a unit. You would have to change the core support brackets on the frame or weld a washer in the bushing hole to make it smaller. (the correct size for the '67 core support mounting) LockDoc

Re: 67-68 grill
Lock Doc sums it all up best.
Quote:
On the 67/68 grille... I always liked that it is part of the body sheet metal, not a filler of plastic or aluminum trim. You look at the two bodies before (60-66 & 58/59) and, although the grilles were made of sheet metal, they are a trim work that fills a big void. Without the grille it's just a big opening and the radiator, same as after 67/68. The 67/68 grille is an integral part of the body. The trim part is just the narrow surrounds that simply 'trim' the air openings. There is no grille work. The before and after grilles 'are' trim

Re: 67-68 grill
Here's an aftermarket grill insert that uses a 71-72 grill surround that gives you the 67-68 grill look. $845 for just the insert.

Re: 67-68 grill
Thanks for sharing, but falls short and wouldn't give the look of a 67/68 to me. Brightwork surround and not having the sloped hood doesn't say 67/68 in my eyes. For that much money you could do it right (minus paint). Everybody is trying to make a buck off these trucks, it seems. The good thing for me is I like them all just as they are. Plus, GMCs are my thing and swapping the years around for the front end is simple
