Re: My Carb & Manifold setup

Why open the Pandora's Box of carburetor swapping if you have a good Qjet? I would get an electric choke conversion and be done with it. I've done it on several daily drivers without isues.

Re: My Carb & Manifold setup

Probably the best and easiest solution is to rebuild your Q-Jet. You won't need any adapters or customization or anything. As far as the manifold, if you're running a stock engine, there's no reason to replace it.

Re: My Carb & Manifold setup

If it runs good, keep running it.
If it doesn’t run good, rebuild it.
The Q-jet is a great everyday carb

Re: My Carb & Manifold setup

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Is there an issue with the carb or manifold, or do you just want to change them?

Re: My Carb & Manifold setup

I like Holley’s on a high performance application, but I prefer Q-jets on milder drivers. And if it sits a lot and doesn’t get run out to higher rpm, the single float bowl of the Q-jet is preferential. I like that you can run oem steel lines on either application that you can’t with the Edelbrock (although The Right Stuff makes an Edelbrock steel line for SBC applications).

In a nutshell, I am in the keep the Q-jet and sort it out camp. Converting to electric choke a great idea.
