Working truck at Walmart

Tried to buy this about 10 years ago. Every year it gets more and more "patina"...

Hey buddy, you guys get the rain we did? I should have put the kayak on the back deck!

I do really like that old truck, it's a daily driver for a neighbor girl.

South Central KY here. We got hammered overnight, and this morning. VERY windy now. Were you guys ok back in December?

Yeah, we had a tornado pass 15 miles to the north and one pass 1.5 miles to the south, it was a bad night but we had very little damage. Electricity was out for 2 days and I spent most of those days getting generators to run for my neighbors.

Thanks for asking, Rg

Re: Working truck at Walmart

Yep, we got the rain and the wind. So far no damage. Right now just rain. 20 miles east they got hammered this morning around 9:30. I spent a few hours in Mayfield with EMS the morning after Dec 10. Very eye opening.

It looks like the "Patina" has spread to the brakes.

Re: Working truck at Walmart

She's a testament to just how great these trucks were designed and built. Back before these trucks became the phenomenon they are now, and they just kept on ticking, you either saw beaters being worked that just wouldn't quit or beauties that had obviously been cherished from day one. Here's to the ones worked and just won't quit. They have always been easy to keep on the road. I love it!

As far as her 'stance' from the front. Obviously, the tweaked bumper (down on right) and hood (up on left) play a big part in her lopsided look. But I also suspect she's wearing mix-matched shoes. The suspension and frame may be just fine. She's a Cinderella for sure.

LOL, when those 11X2 shoes ( front AND Rear) are in their best working condition, they are NOT all that good!!!
Many here are confident in the braking ability of their all drum brakes, but modern crazy driving situations, like busy city traffic, can be too much for 4 drums.

Downtown Mayberry on a Saturday afternoon, no problem!!!

Well, I stopped and talked to her and her dad one day and offered up a front fender if they wanted it (truck was in better shape back then), but old school Kentucky people won't have charity of any type. I probably have everything they need to fix it!

Re: Working truck at Walmart

That front end damage could be from using it to push other vehicles, many times, and just general hard use. I just don't see it as accident damage, unless it was a whole lot of minor ones

There was a 69 or 70 I used to pass all the time going out to the family farm. Not as bad as the one posted by OP lol. I drove by one day and some jack you know what busted out the drivers side window. Glass was on the street still.
I went out to the farm and grabbed a drivers side window. I stopped at his house and said, hey I see someone bashed out your window, here is one to replace it, no charge. They were floored. Next time I drove past it was all fixed. Next time I drove past again ... they sold it haha!

Re: Working truck at Walmart

it is really neat to see them still working hard, I grew up with my dads 69 gmc, and my grandfathers 69 c10, and believe me those two trucks took a hard working beating, my dad was constantly hauling wood, and gravel during the week, and the camper trailer out of town on weekends, and my grandfathers was used for general farm use, and to tend to a commercial fishing fleet, both ran forever, and we used the gmc, to move everything we owned a state away,in 6 trips... my first truck was a beat up 67, that I put a 350 in and drove for years to work, and hauled everything and went everywhere in it, it was the only vehicle my wife and I had when we got married, fast forward 30 years later and two kids that have been born and grown up with the ones I have bought since, including my 72 Cheyenne super, I have never in my life been without a 67-72 gm truck, or a few, lol, great pic, it reminds me of many days, I could ramble on forever, thank you guys, for having such an awesome forum and great people!
