tilt column recommendation
Greetings,
Have a 72 c10 with automatic transmission. Want to replace the stock steering column with an aftermarket tilt wheel. This truck is a driver so I am looking for something reasonably priced. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. |

Re: tilt column recommendation
I have a ididit polished column in my truck and am very happy with. Kind of on the expensive side though. I have used rebuilt tilt column from a forum member (can't remember name) that was very nice and priced well. Possibly do search.

Re: tilt column recommendation
Pricing for an Ididit column in black
1967-72 Chevy Truck Tilt Column Shift - Black Powder Coated 1140657051 $1,087.00 The other end of the spectra is one is from Summit; Helix HEXSTCOL2B - Helix Tilt Steering Columns $199.99 and in stock. Seems to be a popular retrofit and the aftermarket has lots of options between these prices. Including a rebuilt Blazer one on Ebay for $2500! Rebuilt used OEM columns generally seem to be about $6-700, if you can find one. Parts are getting difficult to find for the OEM stuff. I just paid $10 for a single screw and was happy to find one. Hopefully you will find one that works for you. Cheers |

Re: tilt column recommendation
There are stories about cheap Chinese-made tilt columns somewhere on the Internet. Turns out the "ball" used for tilting is not caged, and comes out of the "socket" too easily, which leads to having NO steering. In fact Australia and New Zealand banned the import of all aftermarket tilt columns except those from Ididit, Flaming River, and a couple others.

Re: tilt column recommendation
The best columns are either a stock one, Flaming River, or ididit.

Re: tilt column recommendation
I found this. It's 7-8 years old, but probably still relevant. Don't put your life in the hands of Chinese made knock-off products. I mean we're talking about low-bidder factories that can't even drill holes in the right place on a metal bracket!

Re: tilt column recommendation
I just bought and posted about a CJ Pony Parts tilt column. It's going back. Total garbage for 300 bucks. No provision for neutral safety/back up switch and the complete wrong output shaft. Previous posters are correct, if it ain't Ididit, Flaming River, or OEM, run away.

Re: tilt column recommendation
I bought a rebuilt GM truck tilt column from Les on this board (70shortfleet). It's better quality than a new CPP tilt column I bought and have since sold (lesson learned). My cousin also got a GM tilt from Les a few months ago for his '71 K10 build. I believe Les sells both original truck columns and also cut down van columns.
