Ever have this happen to you ???????

I have this 91 Chevy Silverado (5.7 litre engine) that the oil gauge keeps jumping around. I have changed the sending unit twice and also connected a gauge to the engine to check the pressure. The pressure is real good and it is steady on a gauge connect directly to the motor (around 30 psi idling and >45 psi when RPMs are up). The gauge, on the other hand jumps from 45 to 15 then back up again on an irregular basis (electrical gauge). Has anyone seen this and successfully fixed it?

My friend's oil pressure gauge stays pegged when warm or anything above idle. Idle is fluctuates between pegged and midway.

I have A 91 2500 GMC with 130.000 mi, and mine did the exact same thing. my fix was to add a good mechanical guage, In my humble opinion the oil pressure in your engine is far to important to trust to a funky malfunctioning gauge.

My 95 Z71 did that. The gauge would fall to nothing and the check gauges light would come on. But when it was working it showed correctly. Would only do it occasionally.

Yes, I had the exact same thing with my oil pressure guage. I was a little luckier though. After replacing the sending unit, the problem went away, but I did clean the connector throughly with some grease cutting solvent. You might check to see if the sending unit is grounding good to the block, since it is ground.

just an FYI for those whose oil guage falls to nothing and the check engine comes on, mine did that too and i didn't think much of it, but it turned out it was like some pickup tube that had fallen almost all the way out in the oil pan(or something like that, i'm not too auto savvy), so you might wanna check on that if your truck does anything like mine did.
