Aftermarket 67-71 inner door panels difference

I just purchased a set of import door panels for my truck. Powder coated them Parchment. I love the color combination of Parchment and Medium Bronze.
Just a note on one difference I found. The bottom bolt holes are not beveled for the tapered screws. Easy enough to fix. However, I recommend doing it before painting!!

Re: Aftermarket 67-71 inner door panels difference

I finally got around to installing my aftermarket panels. I had to fix the screw hole dimpling. I had several idea using a hammer and some type of home made tool. Gave up on that and make a easy tool. Drilled a piece of 5/8" round stock and countersunk the end. Then threaded the end for a 10-32 Flat head cap screw. Just assembled the jig and tightened the screw till I was happy with the dimple size. One could have used a 1/4" screw, like the factory ones, but the 10-32 is what I had and the head size was adequate. Dimpling the holes before painting would be a great idea!
I have included a couple pictures that explain it better than I can.

Information along with solution well appreciated.
I been kicking around the idea of replacing my door panels , mind are blank no holes to mount armrests. Maybe your still test fitting but it looks to me like no trim piece on the top of the panel causing the panel to lean out.. Looks good and like the color combo.

Lesson of the day, always test fit before paint, Accelo thanks for the info.

Yes, it does hang out. It was a belated test fit.

I considered attempting to dimple the panel by installing and tighten the factory bolts.
However, I doubted it would work as it increased the chance of pulling the bolts out of the door or deforming the inner door panel.
It would also put the stress on a larger area of the outer door panel and likely deform it in unintended places.
All in all, I was very happy with the outcome. Not a lot of compromise required for this fix.

Great idea, thanks for the heads up on the dimpling process.

Nice work. I will have to keep this in mind when I go to replace my door panels in the future.
