Trans mount idea

Well, dropped this 5.3 4l60e in and with the sliders all the way back the Trans mount is a few inches short.

Are there any options out there to close this gap or am I looking at removing this crossmember and either moving it or buying aftermarket? I'm not pulling the motor back out, it was way to hard to drop in with my rocky driveway and short harbor freight hoist lol.

oh truck is a 67 suburban. motor is from a 2002 Tahoe.

Can you move cross member forward by drilling new holes in the frame?
In lieu of that can you make a bracket that extends up to the trans mount and matches the angle?

I did what LS said..i moved my crossmember forward til the next set of lower frame holes lined up , then I just drilled 2 new holes on each side.. my crossmember has 8 bolts on each side,4 on top frame rail, 4 on bottom frame rail, cant remember what I did about the brace that goes to the top of the frame rail

What is the height gap difference?. I'm thinking a piece of 1/4'' thick 4'' wide plate bolted to the x-member and whatever length it needs to be to bolt the cushion to. But then there is the height or thickness needed?

Was thinking the same as kwmech on a piece of plate if you do not want to move crossmember. You can use a piece of plate or square tube like I did if you need a spacer.
@ mongocanfly, that is a lot of bolts. The 4x4 crossmember in my truck has two bolts at each end attaching to frame. The brace's also only have two bolts on each side attaching to upper frame rails. There are provisions for three bolts on each side to attach brace to crossmember. Do not see room for more than one bolt on either side of the raised portion of crossmember. 4 bolts on each side in my truck.

well to be honest I would love to just slide the stock one. but the top rivets are a pain to get to. I measured the mounts before dropping it in the truck and had a feeling I would be a little short. now that pic I posted is with the trans sitting on my jack so the tail housing doesn't rest on the crossmember. I need to check the pinion where it's at but I'm sure I will need to let the jack down some. so not sure if a spacer will be needed

I did find these add on brackets but can't seem to find anyone that's actually used them

ya it looks like it would work. but the description says it's for 4th generation camaros and to be compatible with the hooker crossmembers. think it would still fit?

I wouldnt know if it will work or not..but for $35 + shipping , I'd be making one...then you'll know itll fit

Judging by the pics in your build thread, your truck was originally an automatic, so that crossmember should unbolt. Only manual transmission crossmembers are riveted in. You might need to take another look and see if they are really rivits.

yes it came with a th400 when I got it. I will clean some.of that grime off and see what's holding it in. I'm hoping it is bolted it......

man you guys are geniuses! it sure is bolt on. I got the drive side bolts out for now, will be getting the passenger ones later today. do yall think the 4 lower bolts are enough to hold it down or should I go ahead and replace all 8?

4 will hold it unless you plan on taking it to drag strip soon.
aka 4 will do for around the yard and easy trips. But you should replace all bolts and torque correctly when it becomes a steady driver.

ya just a cruiser but I might as well do all 8. really isn't that much harder. I see the lower frame holes to slide it too but didn't check to see if it had the top ones already drilled too. hopefully it does and I will replace all 8

thanks for yalls input. slid to the next bolt holes and with my slider motor mounts all the way back, it just lines up!

After batting around a half dozen ideas and looking countless hours online as well, decided to mock an idea up and have it fabricated.

Below are the results, I have dimensions if anyone needs..

Installed rear crossmember as well - bolted to the front crossmember with skid plate - then mounted my torque arm on to that.

when I actually crawled up in there and looked, there are pre drilled holes on the top and bottom of the frame. I unbolted the crossmember, hammered it forward til the next set of holes and my trans mount bolted up to the crossmember with my dingo sliders all the back. you can see how much room I have til I hit the firewall.

thanks! hoping this position works out for me though, ill know more when i get the core support on with the radiator in and see how much room i have with the fan installed.
