Upgrading the tailgate latch system?

Hey folks,

Anyone upgrade their tailgate latch system without spending $3-400?

Im looking into the options and had no idea they are that expensive. Even remanufactured original style is pretty high. I think im going to look into alternative options. Maybe retro fitting a newer models system?

My current latch is a little bent and would need to blast/paint it all. Hopefully rods are savable.

The kit from tre 5 customs is a nice kit, easy to install but expensive. I am happy with it, but expensive for what it is

That tre 5 setup looks really nice. Does it operate as smooth as it looks in the video? The latch must work way smoother and use less effort than the original

Re: Upgrading the tailgate latch system?

I'm sure someone has retrofitted a late model style.

If nothing else I'm going to get the coated wire retainers to swap out the style we have.

Even a cheaper setup from a new truck can add up when you factor in labor and consider fab and welding.

Re: Upgrading the tailgate latch system?

I have no clue how it works but my 2020 Silverado has little button on the tail gate that releases the tail gate electrically. Might be kind of cool to retro fit it to an old truck.

Chewy, it is not finished yet, it installed easy enough and feels very much like the Altman latches fro trique manufacturing. We shall see when I get paint on this truck. Frame went to power today so getting closer.
