Small block temperature sender

Looks like the stock location for the temp sender on my truck is on the left side of the engine by the spark plugs. I'm running an Edelbrock Performer and it has two locations that can be used for the temp sender. Anyone see a problem with capping the original location and putting it in the intake?

Thanks that’s the info I needed. My other issue is sensor thread size. The motor is a Chevy crate that was installed in the 80’s. The original sensor was 1/2” pipe and the block hole is 3/8” pipe thread. At the time I ran in a pipe nipple and adapter. My new sensor is 1/2”. Do they make a sensor for a 70 gauge that is 3/8”? The Edelbrock diagram shows two different temp sensor locations. One is 3/8 the other is 1/2”.

What's wrong with the stock location in the driver's side head?

originally, yes, you are correct. The temp sender was in the cylinder head. However, you can also put it in the intake manifold.

There's varying degrees of my mechanics, brothers, uncles' friend who races said one is better than the other.

My thought is, the cylinder heads are the biggest issue if you overheat, so why put it in the intake manifold? However... how much hotter is the fluid from one spot to the other, they're like a literal distance of a few inches at best, so idk the scientific, objective answer.

The hottest part of the engine is where the combustion takes place…cylinder head
the factory engineers designated the cylinder head as the place where the coolant temperature sensor should go…
whether you agree or disagree, that’s a fact.

Lol i get it.... every time i hear someone say 3 or 4 core radiator i always wonder why they need the extra 3 cores in the first place. Alas, the phrasing stuck anyway and hardly anyone refers to it as a 3 or 4 row radiator.

Re: Small block temperature sender

It’s my mistake. It is the head and not the block.

And just to add to the confusion GM used several different locations over the years.
