Angry I Hate My Truck!

RANT-
im about to throw in the towel and just part out my truck and what i don't sell beat the ever living ***t out of it! on my 700R4 the tv valve keeps sticking so its acting like im always at WOT and that means NO overdrive. my tourque converter is leaking were if the truck sits undriven for more than 3 days then i will go outside and see a huge pile of ATF on the ground. that was sorta ok with me, just have to refill it every now and then. but the thing that im just tired of is the transmission. we took it out to the track and ran a best of 14.372 at 96.59 mph, 60 ft of 2.2742 spinning the tires. so after that run some guy in a 57 corvette blew his motor and fliped over the gard rale he was ok but it took our lovly IHRA crew about 2 hours to clean that mess up, so then the truck was cold and it ran a 16 something, because the tranny wouldn't shift into 3rd gear so then dad decided to run the truck at 6 grand RPM (big block) so now the tapets are all out of adjustment. and then on the way home it wouldn't shift out of 1st and the speedomiter wasn't working. my fuel gague doesn't work, my oil presure gague doesn't work, have to have custom AC lines, no window actuator on the driver side so its just stuck closed, the truck needs paint, and has a fare amount of rust, just about everything on that truck is jerry-rigged because i don't have anymoney to properly fix anything...im about ready to sell it. i might have to pull the transmission so that i can put in a higher stall TQ to help it out some at the drag strip, im tired of working on it. that thing has left me stranded atleast 5 times in the 6 months i've driven it. over the summer my truck has been driveable for maybe 2 weeks, an all weekend thrash to get it running, it won't work quite right but it will run for a whlie and then it craps out 2 weeks later. i need a job so that i can start fixing it up, but i've had no luck getting one. i think im just threw with customizing from now on out, i would sell my truck but im stuck with it. parents won't let me sell it, so its just like a shore in my side. im just tired of working on it, i've lost all motovation to work on it. but i msut keep it, joy.

Heh, sounds familiar! Cept I'd be impressed to run a 20 second quarter mile right now, lol I can't even get the ol' GMC started in the morning less try and get her to spin the tires... She hasn't run good since the day I bought her....

My GMC is rusted out, worn out, barely runs, gets horrible milage, and has no overdrive, but I'm not givin up yet! If you hate this one, go buy a new one like it, swap the good stuff over, and get rid of your lemon

With a hobby such as these old trucks, money is mandatory. Trying to keep one of these old beasts in good running order, with no income, is nothing but a pipe dream. The more you "half-fix" things, the more you will be left stranded as all of the improper fixes will start coming un-done. No flame intended, but it's not the truck's fault that it's in such deplorable condition, it's the owner's. Drag racing an already worn out truck, just expedites it's falling apart. Drag racing is a hobby of the well-to-do and/or mechanicaly inclined. I know how you feel, because we were all young and jobless at one point, but the way I see it you should either park it until you can get the $$$ to at least undo all of the half-assed "fixes", or sell it to someone who has the motivation (and can afford) to give it the TLC it deserves. I know I'm coming across kind of harsh, but someone's gotta say it. You're young, just have patience. Get a job and then start poring some money into the old girl.

i think your truck is trying to tell you to eff off because of that f*rd rear end you put in there. one question- WHY

get a new trans! The drivetrain has to be mechanically sound to get any enjoyment out of a vehicle.. That should be the first priority.. the rest of the stuff, like windows, guages, etc are small time and can be fixed probably for free.

paint is for posers!

yeah i was just super hacked off at it, the drive train doesn't have more than about...1 or 2 thousands miles on it, right now im just trying to bum money off dad and get him to by the parts to make her run, they will do that, sorta. i've fixed alot of my halfasses, and as far as the ford rear end, didn't have a 12 bolt to it it, and it was cheap, plus the ford is stronger than the 12 bolt. i think ill keep her, she's been good to me as hard as i drive her, most of the stuff wrong with her is stuff that i have broken, about the only thing the PO did that has yet to be undone is the driver side window. were about to put in a stock 700R4 out of a 90 truck in her and run it till it blows! my kinda thing, im just upset that it doesn't run, but as y'all have said, needs money and i can get money, being a self employed lawnmower/car fixer has its perks. but right now im in a lul, she may be ugly, and a little slow, but it shure is fun to drive, thanks for all of this boards help,i've just got to keep on keepin' on.

i know how you feel believe me.the first truck i ever had i hated with a passion-it was a pos for one-even with a new engine and trans and being worked on and tinkered with to no end it still never ran right.it got to a point i was going to trade it for a dodge D-50 of all things just to get it out of my hair-the D-50 wound up being an even bigger piece of crap so im glad i didnt do that.approx a month later i traded it for the truck i currently have-even though its gave me serious fits at times-like the year i put 4 trannies in it b/c it kept burning them up or the fact that it has 4 motors in it including the 355 i just built for it hasnt deterred me-yeah its ugly, the drivers side dont roll up due to a broken track, needs a bed,new doors and fenders but you know i wouldnt give it up for anything unless my kids needed medical help or something along those lines that required me to sell it.so keep faith and have some patience-it will get to where you want it to be.it may take some time but it will get there.

let's see.....

my truck has been in the transmission shop 6 times since december
the 12 bolt was rebuilt twice since january
if you park it for more than a few days, there will be a puddle of tranny fluid under it, gonna go back to the tranny shop for number 7 to fix the leak
lately, it will start on monday, not tuesday, start friday, and be dead all weekend
the ignition stuff inside of the column is all sorts of f**ked at the moment

all in all, over 3000 dumped into it since december and I have driven it for a couple of weeks at most without it breaking down.

it is for sale. I go to school 2.5 hours from my home and i have to have a dependable vehicle. my truck isn't that right now. Hard decision to make, but school is expensive and I can't afford to dump money into something if it doesn't get better

if u have a puddle of ATF under your truck when you havn't driven it in a while its the tourque converter. didn't notice how many hardships that their are for owning an "old" truck.
