I'm a happy guy
I found a real truck 4 speed tilt column for $50 plus shipping from an expired Ebay listing. I was worried the Ebay police would be looking for me. I noticed after I sent the guy an e-mail asking about the column that your not supposed to do that.
It's nice when things go your way once in a while. |

If the auction ended, and the column did not sell...then as far as I know...that is OK to do.
I personally do it all the time, especially if I think something is priced too high. 9 times out of 10 the seller wants to get rid of it and you are able to get a good deal. On the column, was it the one I posted a link to about a week ago? *edit* here is the one I posted... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=42609

Did you get the intermediate shaft too? The columns changed thru the years, and you might need a matching shaft. Also, the wiring plugs changed too, just something to look out for.

This was an auction that ended the first week of July. A different one than the link you posted. I think I have the intermediate shaft and switch issue covered. I have a pile of shafts (splined and DD), a 77 non-tilt, 83 tilt, a 77 harness and an 83 harness left over from the trucks I parted this summer.

Sounds like you are all squared away...and yes, $50 is a good deal IMO. I paid $195, but that was a complete rebuild...so I am pleased too.

lol...that's how i got my truck....i was looking through local ebay ads and seen this truck and someone had bid on it and checked back a couple days later and he had left a negative remark on the guy that won the auction so I emailed him and ended up getting it for 800 bucks.

I don't know, the coumn came from a bare cab I bought. Wouldn't the column be the same regardless of trans? The shift indicator is part of the cluster and the trans provides the detents.

nope, the column has detents too. If I set my linkage correctly I can not select first gear. If I set it so I can get first the detents in the column are all messed up. It will work, but I'm not happy with it. I'm either going to have to tear into the column to remove the last detent or stop, or find one from a truck that came with a 700.
