Ignition Problems

Just wanting to make sure I am on the right path. Went out this morning to start the Jimmy and the Starter wanted to stay running when I turned the key loose.
Could this be the ignition switch or a starter problem ?

Thanks for any suggestions

Charlie

Is this an intermittant problem or did it just start happening?
How did you stop it from cranking over?

It's most likey and ign. prob. as there is nothing else in the circiut that controlls power to the solenoid.

Ignition Problems

It just happened. I drove it a week ago and it was fine. I stopped it by turning the key off.
Thanks
Charlie

sounds to me like the ign sw. getting worn out & making contact with purple wire. keep in mind I have also seen the starter sol. cause this too. rare but has happened.

I had the same issue once but I had wired the solonoid (sp?) wrong. I had to swap the two wires around but being this is a new symptom I'd go with the cylinder or a connection that goes to it. Check the plug, I had one once that the p/o had used crimp-on connectors to the back of the key switch looked like trouble waiting to happen...had to change out the whole harness for that one.
Good luck...

I had a problem just like yours and I traced the problem to the ignition switch. The ignition switch needed to be lubed, so I removed it and I sprayed it with WD40.

Ignition Problems

Thanks for all the suggestions. It was the ignition switch. I replaced it and it is fine now.
