For the best quality paint job remove the windshield and the back glass.

If you're going to the trouble of prepping and painting, removing the glass is not a lot of extra work. It's definitely worth it.

However, you might find some unpleasant surprises once you remove the glass. But it's better to be able to fix those before you paint.

Re: Remove windshield and gasket for paint or not?

When I had a new shell put on my truck, I removed the windshield (back glass was already out, due to having the first camper shell installed) and fixed the corrosion issues and repainted the roof. I painted that section below the windshield white, even though it was originally orange, because I wasn't even paying the bucks for the amount of paint needed, there. Orange is stupid expensive.

Short answer is, yes, you should pull the windshield. It's a lot of work, but later, you'll be pleased...and won't have to do it again.

The chances of pulling the window and at least having some rust to deal with in very low.
Is the drip molding perfect? If the answer is no, pull it.
If no stainless trim is involved it makes the decision a lot easier.
The paint job will look a lot more professional.
