1969 c20 tail gate
-
The original tail gate on my '69 C20 was damage at some point in it's life..... the tail gate is bow outward, something in the bed must of rolled into the tail gate. I'm pretty sure that it can't be repaired, I wanted to post over in the want ad section, but it won't allow me to do so. Thanks ! Last edited by LockDoc; 02-22-2022 at 02:35 AM. |

I recommend posting a want to buy ad in the want ad section. To do that you need to subscribe and be a premium member. The membership helps support the board and you will be able to buy and sell here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/payments.php

Ahh, thanks for the information...... I didn't realized that you needed to be a premium member to post a want ad.

Re: 1969 c20 tail gate
I just looked and I didnt go into detail in the thread, but here is the jest of it. You will need a couple of 2x6s or 2x8s cut to appr 6.5 feet. A couple of blocks cut out of the excess lumber. A floor jack and the front end of a truck. I prefer a 4x4 because of the xtra weight. You will just use one side or tire for this operation.
Place your endgate bow UP on the floor and slide a 10 or 12" block under the end of each side of the top. Be careful to miss your latches. Take a blanket or towel and lay it down on the top. Trim OFF at this point.lay your long boards on the bowed area lenghtwise with the whole tailgate. Jack your FE of your pickup high enough to clear this invention. I put the tire over the worst part first. The double boards help distribute the weight of your press over the entire area. Go slow and give it a little press. Go back up and check your progress. You will have to do this several times, but you will get the feel of it quickly. We started doing this when Tiawan started sending these camaro and firebird hoods over here that are bowed up like a cat's back. Good thing is, if you overdo it, flip it back over and it will work in both directions. You may have to move the gate forward and backward to the center of your press even with the long board. Post your pictures after you try it.
